For my grinders out there...

What mark do you usually shoot for (or is realistic) when playing a cash game session? 50% of original stack? Double up your stack? Whenever you feel tired? Just trying to get a consensus feel. Please share your thoughts.

I dont limit my winnings. I play as long as I feel comfortable playing and it doesnt matter if I double up or triple up my strating stack...

Im rolled quite comfortably for the stakes I play so this is not my concern and I just try to play my A game instead of focusing on these things.

Judge the table

I agree with the above post. You shouldn’t dictate when you should leave by stack size, it should depend on how well you’re playing and how many mistakes your opponents are making.

Sklansky says in one of his books that if you’re doing well, you should use matchsticks to prop open your eyelids! :D

As soon as you are off your A game - quit playing.

I do have stop losses and stop gains, but they vary from time to time and game to game.

The stop loss/gain is exactly what I'm looking for. Can you elaborate with an example?

I tend to be very conservative.
If I lose 40% of just one buy-in... I'm done for the night. I refuse to lose big.

On the other side, if I win 50% of one buy-in I ask myself if I want to continue or not. If yes, I recount my stack and if I lose 40% of that, I'm out. If i win 50% of that I ask myself if I want to continue..

and so on and so on..

Good guideline. Thank you.

If I feel I have an edge on the opponents, I keep playing no matter how high my stack is :)My Stop-Loss is 300 big blinds... I feel like I might be tilting too much afterwards.

When the fish leave and there is no value left on the table.Or when i notice my self on auto pilot and tired.I usually play short sessions any way of around 1-2 hours each through out the day breaking inbetween to recharge.Unless the games are just ridiculously good.A stop loss of like 300bb-400bb is probably good as most people feel a little tilt if they run that bad.So you wont likely be playing your A game at that sort of point.

Keep playing as long as you're playing well. It has nothing to do with how much you've won or lost, only how well you're playing vs. the table.

I think it's more correct to put a mark on how much you are willing to lose ...
And when you win, you can play by ka you do not feel tired and control your game ..

All good points. However, I am a bit surprised no one has a “business” view and looks for a certain profit margin. Very interesting.

Stop when:

1) The fish leave.
2) You're not playing your best (due to losses, tilt, tired, ect.).

Stopping after a win or loss of 50% of a buy-in seems insane. That's standard variance in some games (ever played PLO).

Generally 3 buyins for me on the losing side. For the winning side I go till Im too tired to focus with a goal of at least doubling.

Its happened where I was down 2.5 buy in then win a huge pot and leave with a little over my buy in. My session winning graph in hm2 looks like a heart rate graph sometimes.
