I had a mediocre day today winning wise, but I won so much more mentally than I ever have before. I had pocket kings cracked by 73s earlier today and it cost me $8 bucks but I didnt tilt. I made notes on the guy and said out loud I will make my $8 back and more from this guy in the future. In the past I would have tilted off the rest of my buy in in the game I was in, and probably tilted off another buy in trying to bust this guy. I didnt. It was probably the biggest win I ever had by mentally growing my mindset. I know it sucks when our hands that are favored to win are beat by hands we wouldnt play, but remember these bad players are the ones that grow our roll. We want them to play bad. We will make our money in the long run. Poker is a marathon not a sprint. Today I finally realized that.

The beauty of poker is that it does allow poor players to win sometimes, much like a slot machine will allow the people who feed them to win sometimes. If such a machine was designed to always give you back exactly 97 cents every time you put a dollar in it, nobody would ever play the thing. By mixing it up so that you have some small wins here, some large wins there, and just taking the whole dollar the rest of the time, suddenly you have all kinds of people who love to play slots and make bets with a negative expectation even though it's effectively the same thing in the end.

If these players who feed the poker economy never won hands, they'd stop playing. It's genius, really. :)

Very Nice. Stay Positive and don't let bad players luck out on you even phase you.

Thats how they are designed to payout, but in the long term. It actually has to be written somewhere visible on the machine as a percentage of each pound put in, how much in pence it will payout overall. Usually varies from about 85% to 97% and yet people are still dumb enough to put money in.
