Since you see much less hands in live poker, ultimately limiting your variance, does this mean you can still show a profit playing against weaker opponents even if you do have minor leaks in your game? In online I feel like i cant profit because I have leaks in my game that add up and kill me when I'm multitabling and seeing 3-400 hands an hour. Also, what HUD softwares would you guys reccomend and how much do they cost?

As far as live is concerned, its possible depending on how weak are the opponents. If you get 1-2 players who are in the gambling mood, its easy to get money when you have a hand. In the room where I play in, there's usually couple of people just there to give away money (standard $1/2 raise ends up at $20 preflop). It depends on the type of room and the table.

I find it easier to make money online. In live your opponents can watch your every move and much better judge if you have a weak hand.
I play live weekly and rarely walk away in profit. I play tight online and I think I probably need to loosen up in live to catch the straights

Online HUDS are mainly provided via PokerTracker 4 or HoldemManager2.

If you are playing above 50NL they will run you about $100. If below 50NL, maybe $60.

Both have trials so you can get free looks. There are also ways to get them free via play thru programs at several sites.

There may be free HUDs, but they don't get much press, if any.

1: Fewer hands will increase variance, not decrease it. If you are making mistakes it will be amplified by the larger handset. If you are losing money online it is not because of the increased variance, its because you are a losing player.

2: If you are playing 3-4,000 hands an hour online, maybe you should reduce the number of hands you play. This is NOT to reduce variance, but rather to give you more time be thoughtful in your play. If you play your A game when you do 1 or 2 tables, but a B game when you play 5 or 6, don't play 5 or 6 tables. While you will be getting fewer hands, you will be getting better results because you are playing a better game of poker. You may be a winning player when you do 2 tables and a losing player when you do 6. This isn't because of variance, but rather because you are a better player when you can focus more on what is happening.

3: Live poker is a pretty different animal. You give out more information, but you are also receiving more information and at the same time forced to play only 1 hand at a time. This means you will be more attentive to detail. What you may be finding is that the action at a single live game is much easier to read and stay focused on than an online table is. That could account for being a better live player than at online.
