Hey,

I was looking at a video online and a online pro said in full ring, if you're UTG, KQ has no equity. It was only a passing comment wgile talking about something else, so he never explained why

So this mean you raise hoping not to get raised, only limp in or fold with it?

I was fairly confused after he said it. Could someone explain please.

KQ is better than 2,3 but a fairly good hand UTG can get you in a lot of trouble if you overvalue it.

KQ is dominated by any A and QQ+ and particularly by any 3bet range. If you have a tight table image on table full of nits, you might give it a try but be carefull.

Depends on the pro but I think KQ even UTG is a no brainer to at least get a part of the action in case they can hit it with 2 pair or get a straight draw. They would be able to get better reads on their opponents range as well. For a newer player it will definitely get you into trouble. I think I am in the middle of those two extremes and depending on my stack size and table I would at least limp with this hand.

Ya but you can't really open limp though. I'd rather raise with it. From now on I'd open raise with it but if facing a big bet I would probably fold

I think he was referring to the bubble stage.

If I'm opening UTG this is what I'd think about ...
If raising KQ UTG am I looking for 9 folds?
If I get raised, am I beat?
If I get called, am I behind?
If I hit the flop, and raise, and get called\raised then am I 2nd best.

So, basically it's a very risky blind 'steal' play (which may lead to getting your AA\KK called in future ... or perhaps just losing all your chips)
Or, it's a bluff and your rep'ing AA\KK and looking for a fold before showdown.
(If you play this planning to hit a straight and\or flush then it's definitely -EV )

I would do this on rare occasions, when my image is v-tight (and other table conditions suggest it is worth while) ... obviously short handed and\or when blinds are high it's a whole different game.

Raise KQs from UTG... you will represent a stronger hand, most opp will fold, and u have good odds. It's kind of a semi-bluff.

Hello, My opinion is that the hand of KQ is quite strong even in UTG position but only not in the bubble stage and with a short stack.
