Every morning, I win about 50 bucks at 5-10 zoom poker. Every evening I lose it all. Today, I spent the whole day go win from 10 bucks to 95. I told myself once I got to 100, I would stop.
Next thing, 3 bad beats and I'm down to 20 bucks and on tilt.
I stop caring and start shoving with any hands I get. Any!
I go by mistake to the Omaha room and lose 10 bucks there. I go back to the 5-10 room and shove my last 10 bucks. My pocket 4s lose to someone's pocket Ks. I end up transferring 100 bucks to my poker stars account.
Had I known when to stop, I'd be on + 95 bucks.
How do you know when to stop? How do you know when you're not 100%. ?
Has anybody experienced something similar?

If your realize your tilting just quit immediately. There is a program called tilt buster or something that may help you. It sounds like you play better when your just getting up, maybe try not playing at night, this is going to be different on a person to person basis. I will say if your in a bad mood, stressed, it is not a good time to play poker.

I used to play Scrabble tournaments and the same thing happened there. I'd win in the morning and lose in the evening.
The funny thing is at the moment I'm losing more than I'm winning( I already spent like 600 bucks on this hobby). However, if I only played in the morning, I'd be 1500 bucks up. ( been playing for a month now).
I do enjoy playing before sleep but it's losing me a lot of cash.

How long have you played for, only two months? It is odd to blame external factors on the reason you're losing money, especially when night should have softer opponents. Are you playing with people in a different time zone to you?

There is a possibility you're not as good as you think you are and 10nl is hard on poker stars, where there are usually the toughest opponents. You can't expect to begin playing poker and instantly become a winning player. It takes time to learn the game through study and experience.

My recommendation is to drop down to 2 or 5nl where it is cheaper to learn the fundamentals of the game. The problem with your thought process is you're coming from the frame that the fact you're losing is out of your control - external factors have a place, but it is likely there is a lot you can do to improve your skill. It would be similar for me to say 'I only lose when it's sunny outside'.

First of all, you need to learn bank roll management.

In you OP there are a lot of factors which show you are on a fast road to losing your money. And will continue to do so, again and again....

You have tilt problems and are playing way out of your limits.

I am not trying to be an ass, but you need to go down to .2 nl, and learn ABC poker and go from there.

Update on my first answer:

Tilt. Read up on it. When to stop? Dont start unless you know what limits to play. When you are tilting, STOP.

Again, study what tilt is, how to recognise it.

Study what BRM is. Move down in stakes.

everybody experienced this..but im not sure any of us can answer to your question..it s a querstion without answer it s imposible to say when your good luck becomes bad luck :))...there s no article that will tell you this :))))...may be you will find 1 or 2 good things to learn but from my opinion you have to make your own style of poker...for example i , who play for about 7 years , i realized that my own style made me win much more that any crap that s written in those articles...you will learn from 10% of them and the rest of 90% of whats wrote there is a waste of time...if u want to know when to stop you have to learn to read the future :))

Being that your new to the game. You should be playing 5nl. Learn to beat 5nl, then switch to 10nl. Once you lose a buy in tilt normally sets in. Your basically going through what every beginner player goes through. The ups and downs of learning the game. I still have swings like you but at a much higher level on a daily basis.

These are my ups and downs in 1-2 live.

I've been playing for 1 month on Poker Stars.
Before that, I played Zynga Poker on Facebook and got to 3 Billion.
If I should play a level down, how come every morning I win at this level. Even today, I've been doing 2 tables for an hour and I'm 30 bucks up. I always lose it later though. When I get tired, my "zombie mode" automatically switches on.
Same situation judged differently.
I'll give you an example of what happened just now and last night.
Last night: Hero has pocket JJs and 3bets. Villain raises to 2 bucks.
Hero calls. The flop is 2 3 7
Hero checks, villain bets 2 more bucks. Hero calls. Next card is a nine. Villain goes all in. Hero calls and loses to AA.
Same thing happened 30 minutes ago. However this time, I folded my JJs which were obviously not good enough and saved 8 bucks.
What I'm saying is that when I'm tired, I turn into a calling station without even thinking. It's just hard for me to know when that happens. I guess I could stop after 2 bad beats.
That could be a tilt/ tiredness detector.
And yes, I play against players from a different time zones. Maybe that's it. When I'm fresh they're tired and the other way around.

Well you keep saying you play worse at night, so why play at night? You know what the problem is, but you continue asking about it.

It's fun to play before sleep but it's hard for me to tell when I'm not fit to play.
I often fall asleep while in the middle of a hand.
Another problem is money is not an issue, so I treat it like play money, but that's silly 'cause it's certainly no play money.

Anyway, many people told me I was playing above my level. Should I move down even though I'm winning when my head is clear? I just turned 10 bucks into 52 again in 2 hours.

It sometimes depends on your luck, I stop when I know that I win and at the same when my lose is big enough.

You're still offering yourself no solution while continuing to explain your losses by superstitions. Sorry if this comes across as harsh.

A mid way alternative as you don't seem to want to move down, is play nl10 in the morning, nl5 at night. Maybe it is possible that in the morning you're playing a majority of people who are in a time zone where it's evening, meaning the competition is softer. Dropping down to nl5 at night will mean you will be facing softer opponents.

I still think you're over estimating your skill simply by the fact you tilt so easily and that you play your game by a superstition like this that is completely out of your control. I recommend reading the mental game of poker or even John A's polished poker (link in the study group thread).

You shouldn't have had to spend $600 on the game. If you don't mind losing and just wanna play for fun, then you can continue what you're doing and just accept the losses as the price for your entertainment. If not, then you have to change how you view the money.

That's actually a really good solution. Thank you! That's what I'll do!
I'll play lower stakes at night.
I agree. My mental game is weak. It's always been weak.
I keep hearing about polished poker but I haven't managed to find the book yet.

You want to stay in control if you are playing anything but a freeroll. If my wife dosen't want me to go play a live tourney she starts a fight. If I am upset there is no sense in me playing for I am on tilt before I start. If you feel your mood turning QUIT!:D

Every time, when you say to yourself that you want to reach a little bit more, lets say in your case 100$, you will lose the money.

Bro, if you're playing poker for the thrills you're doin it right. Know that you'll never be profitable after a decent sample of whatever limit you're playing to go from 20 to a bill in one morning.. doesn't make a shit how good you are. You'll sleep better at night if you profit 2 dollars instead of losing 80. Even if you lose with BRM, it stings just enough for you to analyze when you made mistakes and the solid hands you played that resulted in a loss. GL my dude
