Good luck to everyone in June, unless you happen to be in a pot against me of course.

A few of goals of mine for this month:

  • Play 100nl rush as well as I did in May and profit.
  • Earn enough to refund my holidays in Vegas, which I paid from my bankroll.
  • Learn how to play live

Anyone has advice on how to prepare for live play? I was thinking of doing a couple of sessions playing a single table at 10 or 25nl HUDless while drinking beers. Does that sound any good?

Seriously just have some fun, don't do any silly stuff like wearing sunglasses and berating fish, have a few beers and relax.

Goals for this month, break even.

Goals for this month... Finish it up more than just 1.5Buyins like last month. I've been playing more Rush too, which could help a lot or hurt a lot...

BTW, June might be the last month when I can play on the international rooms. The stupid French law that's supposed to restrict us to French rooms was supposed to start applying on June 10th, but Malta had some objections to it and complained to the EU, so its application to poker should be delayed until early July at least.

Once the law comes into effect, French players will either have to play in French only rooms, or on international rooms that don't apply for a French licence. That means Cereus will remain accessible, hopefully FT, and certainly not PS, ongame, ipoker, cake, ...

Online - Play 2500 hands and profit
Live - Play 5 sessions at the local club and profit

Have a trip to NC middle of the month that will wipe out a weekend of play and then VEGAS at the end of the month !!!!

First of all if your forum name gives any clue to the sorts of beer you might enjoy... well you might as well drink water if you are going to be practicing for drinking American mainstream beers in Vegas. There are many wonderful US beers but you are not gonna get them for free while you play in Vegas. :)

As to learning live play, you've done the most important work by mastering online small-mid stakes. But live games can be quite varied. I can only imagine the Vegas 1/2 games are better than most I've played here in Dallas, but playing 2nl might even be a more accurate analog aside from the fact the quality of players will likely be quite varied live. I personally prefer to play live 1/2 as deep as possible since pre flop play can be comically exaggerated with "aggressive" players raising 5x-10x and lots of calling, and then post flop play is often fairly soft. I *suppose* shortstacking might also be a viable strategy, but just not fun.

But again, Vegas might not be this way.

I just hope you like it. I find live play to be so fun. It seems to be very 3D to me compared to online.

Live tells that I've actually had success applying:

1) When people have two card straight draws, or they make a straight, they usually take a second look at their cards. So if the board comes JT24 and then a 9 hits on the river. If a fish shoves without looking at his hand ever in the hand, he likely doesn't have a straight, and is more likely to have J9 or 9T.

2) Big hands come with apprehension. When people have a big hand, they tend to be pretty nervous. When they're bluffing, they're more likely to be jovial. My hands tend to shake when I've got a big hand, so I just started shaking intentionally when I'm bluffing.

3) Sometimes the way people put chips in the pot can give away their intentions. This one is a little harder to use since you would like to see a showdown before applying it, but a guy in my home game likes to splash the pot when he's bluffing.

Play it like you would 5NL.

Don't 3bet light, because they don't fold.
Do have a wide 3betting value range.

This is fairly self-explanatory-

Don't bluff the flop, because they don't fold.
Do occasionally set up multistreet bluffs. Lots of flop peels, not so many showdowns.

This may seem weird, but my best guess as to why is that people are, somehow, much more worried about looking foolish live. They can peel the flop with air, but they don't want to get their stacks in with second pair. For that reason, pulling some big bluffs can be very profitable.

Etc. Mostly just valuebet often. Also, the casinos on the strip, anyway, usually had Heineken available for freebie beer. That worked for me.

I know this sounds dumb, but please clarify what exactly you mean by 100 nl rush and 10 or 25 nl HUDless? Does this mean $100 NLHE in cash game where you buy-in with $100. Please clarify for me. Thanks, Wally

WOW!!!! What a weekend.... first off a drank more beer this weekend than I have in a while. Went to a local bar to watch the UFC fight (which dissapointed me). So Sunday I decided to play some pokers with what little money I had on UB. I ended up going from $37 to $107 and some change. Then I took a nap, went to watch Prince of Persia (which was awesome) and decided to play some more when I got home (actually went to my soon to be mother-in-laws). Well for some reason my internet kept dropping every 20 or so minutes. It seems like everytime it dropped I was in a big hand. Ended up losing $35 bucks thanks to some shitty internet! Really tilted me!

I know this isn't cash related, but I think I'm going to start a challenge myself like CAM and a few others have with the $4.40 Rush Tournaments. I'll let you all know and will setup a thread for it if I decide to proceed. I had a buddy turn $50 into a little over $500 doing the exact same.... sounds pretty promising!

I'm off to a fantastic start this month... up $800 in the first 24 hours.

I was at Harrah's in Cherokee, NC today (well it was kinda today...got there just before 12AM and left ~4 AM)... They have a poker room now that uses Poker Pro Tables.

YouTube- Poker Pro - at the Excalibur
(vid a little annoying but you can see the table fairly well)

I was playing $1/$2 NLHE... Bought in for $300 and cashed out 4 hours later with ~$800.

I also ran up another $300 profit on a PLO heater on the FT rush tables.

There was one other decent player at the table and 7 fish, 5 of which were incredibly, pathetically easy to read.... god it's so much easier live. One of them would verbally complain every time he got bet into or raised and he didn't like it...and he wasn't faking it. Three of them as best I could tell were 100% reliably telling me how much they liked their hand by their bet size.

I watched one guy donk off ~$700 on 3 seperate hands by pushing an AJo into a 3 way pot on bad boards (he just had overcards and no draw and refused to fold it every time till he went bust).

anyway.... I'll be going back.... might get a room in Cherokee for a weekend and live in the casino or something.

June goals: Learn to play poker.

Regarding the live thing, you can already crush most live games. Don't do anything stupid, don't overthink it and you'll be fine.
