all depends on the situation, whether its a tourny or cash etc. But generally you should be raising with it pre flop playing itr agressor on a under board but being weary of overcards. Although it looks pretty it isnt as poqerful as your pock queens +, so be wary and treat it like pock tens if it is easier

play aggressive with it cause pre-flop there's only 3 hands that can beat you, it all dependso on your table though

Be careful with pocket J's. I have lost more hands with them than any other! Of course to begin with I didn't know how to play them! I would raise then see if you hit a set.If someone bets if a K or A come up you're probably beat!

Pre-flop:
If the pot hasn't been opened, open for 3~5 times the big blind. Be weary of a reraise.

If the pot has been opened, opt to call rather than raise.

Smack limpers with your reraise! No CHEAP FLOPS!
Post-flop
Be careful of over cards. Other than that you'll most likely have the best hand. Be sure to continue to protect your hand because of how vunerable it is to AK, AQ, and KQ. Bet appropriately if you think your opponent is on a draw.

I would play my JJ agressive pre-flop n if any1 calls then u know they've probs got pocket pair or a face card, so when the flop comes out i take my time waitin for them to raise into me depending on the board. Thats how i play it. :p (ive only been playin 6months)

I raise jj 4 to 5 times the big blind, if no over card comes out i raise it more, if an over card comes out i bet the same, show no weakness, if i get re raised, i will fold, works for me.

I raise jj 4 to 5 times the big blind, .
too aggressive when playing any hand u should always raise the same amount like maybe 2.5 to 3.5 times the big blind
if someone calls or even raises a 5*bb raise ur probably beat and u can only be aggressive if the flop is not dangerous
play jacks like u have aces or 7 2 play everyhand the same

Conventional wisdom tells us there are 3 ways to play JJ preflop. And all of them are wrong!

Funny your asking this,, i play J J differently if ite a money game or a freeroll, anyways in yesterdays FT freeroll the very first hand & also the very first player to bet went allin,, i had J J,, it was a freeroll so i called him, well luckily he had 4 5 off suit, a tipical freeroll whore who goes allin with nothing, i won the hand and doubled up,, had this been for real money i might not have called,,, what im trying to say is J J is very tricky to play, some time i call and sometime i fold,, it depends on my gut feeling at the time,,, as Doyle says, always go with your gut feeling and most of the time its rite,, buck

Raising 2.5 to 3.5 bb would get too many callers i want to narrow the field with jj, iam happy with one caller less chance of my jj falling down, i play mostly 6 seaters usually get one caller. I think your play would be better heads up.

I would definently raise 3-5x preflop. I might make a c-bet on the flop even if an over comes. It all depends on what kind of read you have on your opponents.

Most general question ever?

Cash or tourney?
Position?
Previous action?
Stack size?
Your opponents?

In general JJ is a good raising hand but at full ring in I tend to play it like I would 77 and go for set value.

Playing JJ depends on position a lot, in middle early and middle position i always make a raise if no limpers. If a limper or raise in front of me i normally will just cold call and hope to flop a set. In late position i always re-raise unless it was captain tight pants that raised in front of me then i might fold or cold call depending on price and stack. As for post flop, once again, it depends on who called your raise and what the flop came, if it comes with a pair of 9's on board and the guy who called is notorious for playing suited connectors then i would be very careful. but if it come 10-7-3 rainbow then no matter position you have to bet and if re-raised then be very careful. J's are very dangerous cards to have if you don't hit a set.

To Quote Phil Laak

"Pocket Jacks! It ain't about pocket Jacks! I'll tell you the secret... You gotta steal! That's it! Rob em blind to build a stack."

Then you won't get knocked out when you get pocket Jacks!:D

In general JJ is a good raising hand but at full ring in I tend to play it like I would 77 and go for set value.

I also play it for set value with big stack, but JJ is not good even for that. When you hit your set, very often there is one or more str8 draws since players play high cards. If you are against more than one opponent, BIG TROUBLE! What do you do when a 3rd str8 card hits and they start betting?

Of course, JJ is also not good for high pair since 50% of the time there is an overcard on the flop.

The nickname of JJ should be "jackasses". :p

I play this hand as if it was a monster, because it sort of is.

I'm happy to raise and raise and maybe even put the 4th raise in, depending on how I perceive the situation. However it is beaten by 3 pairs QQ KK AA, so you need to be able to fold it PF.

After the flop, like any over pair, you would believe your winning, but you can't have an all or never strategy for it, put a bet in to find out where you are, and use what your opponent does to make your next move.

I try playing big preflop if I have chips to do so. It''s, to me, one of the most troublesome hands to play, period. Anytime an 5-6X raise takes a small pot preflop with Jacks, it's time to sigh in relief. If you gotta play it post flop, better against only 1 opponent.

It's actually one of my least favorite hands to get dealt. Just compelling enough to make it a very tough laydown, but sooo vulnerable.

OK now, JJ? What position are you in? first to act or last? whats on the board? this alone will kill you if you can't determine what is the best possible hand that can be made from here.
For instane you are in the BB, and you have three limpers. What do you do? Well for sure there is paint out there, another pair. etc. Check to see the flop. ok now the flop comes 8h-6d-5h. What do you do?
min raise not an option here, Shows severe weakness and will be thumped. Have to check it. Why. Look at the board. Flush draw, straight, and straight flush, besides three sets. At this point I would fold to any raise for my postion hasn't improved one bit and I would be a long shot to win.
It all about the gamble preflop, for that is what it is. The playing doesn't start till the flop comes. Then and only then you can some what desipher how you actually lay.
The thing you propose is still foggy at best, not enough information.
