First of all hello, this is my 1st post in cardschat.

So, I am a 2NL player at pokerstars and i dont know if it is time to move up.

I was playing 2NL/5NL when I first started playing poker, yeah I was one of the fish lol, I gave you guys a lot of money ahah. I busted my BR twice and I decided, I am going to learn how to play this game. So I began reading forums for advice and I got some, but I needed more so I decided to read Harrington on online poker ( he has a nice chapter on Micros). And since then I began really playing this game, and being successful actually !

I am now with 10146 hands ( after reading the book/forum ) and I am playing 13/11 , I know I am tight but it kinda works for me, I dont try to bluff I dont try to make fancy plays, just ABC poker. I got 19.16 bb/100. I got 112$ on my bankroll.
The thing is, I just began playing like this 10 days ago so I think its kinda soon to already get a shot at 5NL

What do you guys think? should I wait for the 150 ( 30 BI ) or should I wait because 10 days is way to short of a time. I am felling really confortable at 2NL at the moment. I am planning to mvoe down from 5NL if I lose 4 BI.

BTW I should tell my goals since its quite important. My goal right now is to move up to 10NL beginning of the next semestre (mid-september)

Thannk you in advance, you guys really helped me out in this couple of weeks, if you need more info just say something.

Personally, i think you could take a shot at it. Like you said though, just make sure to move down if you cant hack it. Personally, i keep 100 buyins for the level im playing but a lot of people think thats excessive. For instance id start out at 2nl with $200 and build it to $500 before i move up. This can take a long time but its nice especially when you hit the bigger levels(imagine having $5000 and sitting down to a .25/.50 nl game, keeps you from playing scared, thats for sure)

Are you playing fr or 6max. I would at least wait till you've got the 30 buy ins. A few more hands at the current level won't hurt, running good over 10,000 hands is pretty common and will likely go down a bit when variance strikes. But if you can keep crushing 2nl at your current bb rate you'll hit $150 in no time and then just move up.

yeah I forgot, I am playing 6max 2NL. okay that's what I thought, just get a couple more thousand hands and if I keep winning just make a shot at it. thx! I think I am waiting for the big 30 BIs .

BTW is it normal to have a couple of bad sessions? I see my self losing sometimes like 2 BI in a session ( and then win them back the next session or something ) but is it normal? or I am just getting lucky??

Move up. 20BI is enough, it's only 5nl.

$2*30 = $60

so move down when you lose 8BI.

are the players close to what I find in 2NL?

There's literally no difference in skill between 2-5nl. People are slightly better at 10nl but not by much. So long as you're not like me and you don't tilt easily over dumb shit you'll beat those three levels without much effort tbh.

Yeah give it a go and move down if you need to... no shame in that, we've all done it.

As for being tight, it's probably best to start this way and only when you learn more and feel confident in more spots begin to open things up a little. So don't worry too much about that (yet).

Good luck!

I'd wait for 40 buy-ins to move up, but that's super conservative. If you're consistently making 20bbs/hr, sure take a shot but be ready to drop down if you have to. Also considering learning to 12-24 table

Sure go for it. Don't forget to run like god. That's pretty key when it comes to shot taking.

You're totally going to hit a wall soon, but there's a good chance 5NL ain't that wall.

I like seeing what is going on. I do 4 tables at once. Be careful doing too many as you start missing a lot

pokerstars is his job:)

Lol, specially with the 112$ on the bankroll.

I say you should stay, why do you need to rush things? Winning more money where you are won't hurt.

Anyway, tell us what you do!

You guys are talking about playing $1/$2 NL? or $2 max buy in? $112 is a very small bank roll to try to move up on anything.
Recipe for Busto soup. Yum.

I tried moving up today and it went well for my first session... It started quite slow in the beginning but in the end I got a spree of good cards and it went fine, dont know if that's why I succeeded in this first sessions, but lets see...

I found it quite tight actually, I couldn't get any money from my big hands... but I got some stacks from fishes which was nice, because the stack now is 5$

I will keep you guys posted, planning on making a big sessions tonight.
Thank you all for the advices!

I would at least mix in a couple of 5NL tables even if not all you are playing...

If you are winning at 2NL, you can certainly win at 5NL. The skill levels are virtually identical
