is it ok to fold AKo preflop in this situation?

So I'm in the small blind with AKo. Action folds to the button. Button raises and I 3-bet thinking Button's range is usually pretty wide. Big blind folds. Button 4-bets me and I 5-bet shove. I run into AA and lose my stack.

Is this just a cooler or should I have been able to get away from this hand by folding to Button's 4-bet?

Hi, in that situation unless you have history on the BB that indicate he only four bets really really strong (AA or KK only) I don't think you can get away. I'd chalk it up to just a cooler and move on. The only caveat may be if both of you were extremely deep, though even then I don't think I'd get away.

Ok, so I just checked this situation with Flopzilla.

If the button has a tight 4-bet range of AK and KK+, then the equity of AKo is only 37%. which is not good in my opinion.

If the button has a looser 4-bet range of AQ+ and JJ+, then the equity of AKo is just a shade over 50% which is still not justifying a 5-bet shove.

I guess this 4-bet situation is just a fold with reasonably deep stacks.

You forget the mention the stakes you play at and reads on opponent. At higher stakes, it's almost always profitable to get AK in here because the sheer amounts of 3b bluffing going on.

In general, my 4b range when BTN vs SB is super wide because most people are bluffing more in the SB.

And to add to your math, by the time you're faced with a 4b with AK, there is already enough money in the pot to justify your shove with AK.

I push everything without fear, how often it comes with AA, this is the question most of the time you are ahead.
