I was just thinking about this the other day after watching some High Stakes Poker seasons on gsn...what if I found an extremely wealthy person to stake me into a super high stakes game in which all the players are better than me and would beat me in the long run. However, if i played tight and ran good and won a couple pots, the amount i would win would be life-changing for a broke college student like myself. Now I just have to find said wealthy person willing to gamble their money.

haha not a bad idea... buttttt of course u could run bad and be in the hole a Life changing amount of money with no way to pay it back lol but if your are gunna do this id work on your selling points i.e. dont tell said investor "all the players are better than me and would beat me in the long run" but to be fair ive thought about this same idea plenty of times

The wealthy person would have better odds putting the money on red or black instead.. Or playing themselves.

Sounds like you should audition for The pokerstars Big Game, if they ever decide to put on another season.

I agree. I have day-dreamed more than a time or two of getting an opportunity to play the wsop main event. Considering the $10,000 entry fee, that's all it is - a dream.

Suggestion to the OP:

Spend your time learning, studying, and most importantly playing poker. One day you could turn out to be a heck of a poker player. Then, if you played your cards right (pun intended), you may be able to sit at that table. It is a game that can and will take a lifetime to master.

Wealthy people usually don't gamble their money. They look for good investments, that's how they stay wealthy. But it's an idea. Good luck with it.

True, but there's another way to look at it.

For a really great player, a professional player, poker is an investment. In my opinion, poker is only gambling if the player is playing it with a gambling mindset, sure there's the potential to lose money, but that's nothing new to investors. Many don't see investing in the stock market as gambling, yet many people gamble their money away there without knowing the true potential of a company, holding on to investments too long, and any other number of mistakes.

Furthermore, a lot of very wealthy people have no interest in actually looking over the details of their portfolio. Investors hire stock brokers to look over their investments, put their money into the correct markets and share a percentage of the gains. Many investors supply capital for companies for a share or royalty in the company without any real participation in it's day to day operations beyond suppling startup capital. The same is true here.

Consider a professional poker player like a stock broker or a small business owner looking for start up capital. Sure, there's a potential risk, but investors will also look at the potential reward and the skill of the person involved. I know some individuals who invested in a small business, they didn't necessarily know how it all worked, but they saw a potential that outweighed the risk. Some investors may micro-manage their investments, but many are so diversified they outsource this to other individuals. I'm no big time investor, but when someone wants me to invest in something, I don't always want or need the nitty gritty details - I just want the overall picture, the risks involved, prior experience, and potential profits. If I knew a player who was consistantly a strong winner at poker needing some startup capital, I'd see that as a strong investment. A lot of the time, it's just as easy to make money by putting faith in other people's skills - it allows you to reach out into areas you wouldn't otherwise be able to invest in.

Your idea might have some merit if you start thinking gigolo or boy toy. You should try to find yourself an older rich sugar mama or better yet a rich poker playing woman.

It worked for Cowboy Kenna James for about a decade with Marsha Waggoneer (Yes I know that thought is cringe-worthy). Are you ok with rolls of back fat? If so, I think Kathy Liebert is on the market.

Son hold fast to your dreams and hitch your Waggoneer to a star.

My boss wanted to stake me once. He's not a poker player. I told him no. I thought it would be awkward at best. Plus he was talking about 2k for live $200 nl.

Yes, there is always www.sugarmommas.org I think that would definitely be a +EV move because in the best case I get an older lady to stake me, and in the worst case I just end up vomiting when trying to hook up with an ugly ass older lady, in which case the latter isn't too bad and the former is extremely profitable.

Also if they're old enough to be post menapausal you can't get'em preggo, that definately ++EV. Of course knitting helps, who doesn't wish to been seen at the poker table wearing a knitted hoodie made with love.

This is a dream I have also getting to sit at nose bleed seats and winning just one time would be sweet.

If you got your dream how big of stakes and what game would you play?

Given our tax codes wealthy people would have to be moronic to work, start a new business or even really invest in a lot of domestic equities these days.

They are teh job creators though, lol....lol.....lol.
