Hey folks

I've been a member for a while but I've been forum-lurking most of the time. I thought now is probably a good time to ask for some help/advice.

I've hit a massive brickwall mentally, and gamewise.

I bought HEM2 a month ago, and I certainly think it's worth the money spent although I have a feeling I'm not using it to its full potential!

Since I got HEM2 I've played ~50k hands (mostly ZOOM), and my graph is slightly... well take a look

graph1.jpg

It's not so much the losses that bother me, it's more the way the showdown line is so far up compared to my winnings(or losses). I guess I'm not going to showdown often enough?

With the kind of swings that the bankroll is taking also makes me wonder if I am missing some basic knowledge of the game, eventhough I've improved massively and gone through 2nl, through 5nl up until 10nl now (where I'll most likely stay until my results get less swingy and hopefully ascend a little more.)

graph2.jpg

I think my VPIP and PFR look absolutely awful. I've changed the way I play alot during the last month based on results. I started out as 28/12, got down to 21/17 and at some point I was at 17/15(with a sample size of 15k at that time), and now I'm at 15/10, and slightly tight/passive which I personally don't like. At all.

And that's where I feel I am lacking knowledge of the game because I can get into situations (usually when I've taken some bad beats, where I play bad, or other players end up annoying me with their play, eventhough nothing's wrong with it... sometimes!.) not knowing when or what to 3bet with, when to shove, when to c-bet, when not to c-bet, when to check-raise, or when to fold for that matter, and I just end up with an irrational mess of a game. Maybe its a self-confidence issue as well?

I think I'll leave this one be for now, and post a few hands later.

PS: Sorry for any grammatical mistakes, English isn't my first language! :)
Thanks for reading!

I would recommend, since you seem like your a newer player, or at least in an online since play at regular tables. Also is this 6max or fr? I'm not familiar with zoom, except its like rush poker, but since I'm a U.S. player I don't know alot about it. If this is for 6max your vpip is way to low for 6 max and the gap between your vpip and pfr is to big. It looks like your a little showdown happy as well, especially for how tight you are.

3 betting you want to look for players with a hi to fold 3 bet rate, at 66%+ any two cards 3 betting with become profitable before your actual hands equity comes into play. It sounds like watching some videos would be good for you, you really should have a fairly decent idea of what boards to cbet. There are a few threads about books look into that, as well I think you need some education I would recommend Blackrain79 book to you and I think that would go along way for helping you.

Looking at your all in EV you are running good and should probably have lost more than you have. If you think this is just a case of coolers then thats fine, but if your going on tilt and losing then maybe move back down to 5nl.

Use hem to analyse your play and find where you are losing money. Like calling raises from the blinds, Being over aggro or calling cbets too much. There is always something we have to improve. Also look at when you lose a big pot and if this sends you on tilt and you tilt off money then quit and come back after a break.

Pretty standard advice but has worked for me.

A few hands here that show where I've lost the most. Will post some winning hands a little later.

1)
poker stars $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players

BTN: $10.00
SB: $10.05
BB: $10.00
UTG: $9.36
Hero (MP): $10.68
CO: $10.15

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is MP with K A♦
1 fold, Hero raises to $0.35, CO raises to $0.90, 3 folds, Hero calls $0.55

Flop: ($1.95) A♣ 5♠ 2♣ (2 players)
Hero checks, CO bets $0.93, Hero raises to $3.34, CO calls $2.41

Turn: ($8.63) 4♣ (2 players)
Hero bets $6.44 all in, CO calls $5.91 all in

River: ($20.45) 2 (2 players - 2 are all in)

Final Pot: $20.45
Hero shows K A♦ (two pair, Aces and Deuces)
CO shows Q♣ T♣ (a flush, Ace high)
CO wins $19.53
(Rake: $0.92)

I guess I was too fond of my TPTK in hand 1, and perhaps I should have 4bet pre flop? I couldn't see myself getting away from the hand on the turn because of the money already in the pot and since I put myself in a spot where I had to C-bet the turn regardless of what card showed up.

Terrible, terrible play on my part. I overvalued my TPTK in that hand, but having position on two checkers who were pre-flop raisers made it seem like a strong hand. To me checking my TPTK here would seem a little too passive. I certainly shouldn't have lost that much though.

The only reason I played the hand this way was because the villain was marked aa fish, running something like 55/19 across ~100 hands. I should have raised the flop instead of the turn I guess. Or done nothing at all? No idea

Personally, I think the 13/9 is a good number. The WTSD% of 26-29 is too high though. Cbet could be higher.

Are you the one betting down or are you calling a lot? It could be you need to give up sooner when the other person raises over the top or donks into you (your flop cbet is only 66% so I don't know what happens the other 36%). Maybe your bet sizing needs adjusting on drawish boards or even pre.

In Zoom, I think the most important thing is position. A lot of people are just there looking for big hands and otherwise folding. Play position poker and raise up weak blinds from position. Otherwise, AQ, AK, pockets, and mid-hi suited connectors.

I feel like if you were playing super tight and standard, your graph would be a lot better than this. You must be making some bad calls.

About the hands:
1) Overcommited, looks like he has fd, it hits and you shove it all? You have no equity behind.
2) Need to know more to judge, like villains stats and how he was playing. You should know he is gonna bet that when you call the flop rr weak.
3) You played this one well, unlucky.
4) Bet more sooner
5) Bad call pre, he put you in way behind.
6) You spent too much on TPTK to a guy who just let you spew.
7) Try not to commit so much to TT there. He RR'd you, don't RR back weak.
8) RR the flop!

You need to give some details about your opponent.

1. The turn is a terrible card if he called with low suited connectors or pp he could have you beat this way or the flush.

2. This looks like a real weak play you go crazy with ak on a scary ass board, but then fold jacks a overpair on a relatively dry board. I hope you had some sort of read on the villain here.

3. Cooler

4. Raise on the river is a made hand such like a straight or flush, straight makes no sense, but flush easily does on this runout. The other guy said bet more, looks like your bombing every street to me.

5. The rest just is to hard for me to read and I give up sorry lol.

You are going too far with hands and folding which makes it very hard to win over a long sample. This is common and easy to fix. Some areas to look at are:
Your aggression pre flop and post flop
Are you a non-believer?
What hands are you going past the flop with, why are you folding when you do?
Are you planning your hand? - When? (the earlier the better)
Are there positions you have trouble in post flop?
Are you using late position to your advantage?

Good luck!

Uh, okay, I guess. I'm just asking for advice, you know.

You are going too far with hands and folding which makes it very hard to win over a long sample

I guess that's where my flaw is. I'm often in a position where I'm the preflop raiser with 1 other player in the hand where I might flop top pair or middle pair with a medium kicker, I'll be c-betting such a flop 90% of the time (of course depending on how many players are in the pot)

Like that hand really. I suppose I shouldn't have called his pre-flop raise? I just found it strange he'd raise that little from the small blind, unless he was just trapping me of course.

Here's another KJ example:

Another quick example is where I'm holding AK and the flop comes say AK7, turn is a blank and I get raised on the turn. Which'll either turn into a crying call, or acrying shove because I'm rather sure he's hit his 2-outer. But I couldn't see myself folding either.

Those are quite standard situations I get into, and when I do, I usually get confused. Sometimes I talk myself into calling because I just want to see his hand, but if I do that a couple of times more, I'm already down to 50 bigs on that table, and to avoid that I end up changing to some super tight nit, sometimes voluntarily other times not. But it usually never works out.

Also; I will begin checking out some videos regularly and get things a little straight!
