Improving your Poker..........

Hey everyone,
I like to know what type of methods or studying strategies you guys use to help improve your game. So far all I do is read, read, read, any tips on the stuff that works for you?

well, I improved my game a lot when started thinking what my opponents have even when I am not in the hand.. Always think about the other guy's hand.. Don't use tips as a robot.. Don't memorize how to play AQ or JJ. Every situation is different..

After losing a hand always think how you could play it better:

1. If you won it - think how you could possibly get more chips

2. If you lose it - think when exactly your opponents betting pattern showed he has you beat... Think about how you could have saved chips.

Later when you have identical situation - you will play it better.

The training sites are very good.

Another suggestion is to start reading and posting hands in the hand analysis forums. You'll get feedback from other players on this site - you may even start talking w other members as a result. Most of my learning is in reading and talking w my peers and talking w players who are much better than me - this resulted from participation in the ring game HA forum.

Also, there are discussion threads in the Learning poker forum devoted to MTT, SNG, and microstakes cash game discussions. The cash game discussion is very good, and I believe the other two are equally good (I don't play alot of MTT's or SNG's, so I'm less familiar w those threads).

I agree Kidkvno1, I find the best way to learn is to watch videos and see the hand develop in your eyes instead of reading it thru a book and having to visualize. Although, there is also a lot of useful information in books.

Go back and review the hands you've played! If you're not reviewing your past play, you're missing out on a real chance to discover your leaks. I find it hard to go back to nasty hands where it feels like I got sucked out on, or missed something simple, but those are the places where you need to improve, so they warrant the extra time.

I do this ALL the time. basically talk myself through it. Try to decipher how couldve played the hand better that way when the situation arises again Ill be better off.

Well if u have studied Harrington's book on poker, then u r good to play !!!
IF u haven't read, i strongly recommend you to study it....Also study about bankroll management, its really very very important.{if u don't know how to protect your winnings, then whats the use of winning}...

Next i would recommend you to watch the games played by pros...That will really improve your skills....

I agree with you ...and I need to check out FTA...I usually am so busy that I forget about that one till time to log in for a tourney! I'm going to have to stick that note on my computer list of things to do ASAP! It'll be first on the list!:smile:

People learn better or worse in different ways, so you should probably try various things to find a method or a mix that works well for you. Then, it's important to try things in play to see how well they fit your individual style as well as what you ought to adapt to help the new things fir in better.

video's are definitely the way to go. it's good to read but seeing and hearing something in a video that you already read really brings it home. trulyfreepokertraining.com is worth checking out if you play on fulltilt. but even just looking up all the different training sites and watching their free videos would be a good idea. deucescracked had an awesome free one. also there's pretty cool leak finder videos in HEM now with the latest update.
