So true - I mean not you in particular, but ourselves. HOWEVER, we are also our biggest asset!

It is true, most of the time we lose our mistakes more than the ability of our rival. In fact, I am convinced that the most solid and skilled players are those who make the least mistakes. So, clearly we are our worst enemy

You have some reason, the worst enemy is yourself, but so your best friend, if you know how to handle and learn from your mistakes'll be better

Yes that's right. It is necessary to constantly develop, learn something new, look for your mistakes and correct them. People cease to succeed when they think that they already know everything and they are the best.

I agree- I often look back and find when losing a hand I'm acting without thinking my move through. Over and over I've noticed this - ridiculous that I haven't learned yet.

That's why I call myself 'PokerDev'...because pretty much once I started playing I realized that poker was an optimal tool for self-development.

In fact, is there another reason to play (aside from getting filthy rich of course)?

I think it may be the pearl hidden in the ocean of money we are hoping to swim through.

Ok, messed up that metaphor, but you get what I mean.

Good for you on developing yourself!

Yes people can be their own worst enemy by not putting the work in and pacing themselves.
Learn to accept things good bad and indifferent.

Good post/thread - here are some tips from the pirate.

You will never fully develop at poker unless you play regularly, have patience, know when to stop and (where the fold button is), stick to a bank roll, never chase losses, study some if not all of the maths theory around poker, understand variance, pot odds, hand ranges, probability, use CC calculator (big smile), position and bet sizing.
Then...(theres much much more) - recognise your best game, (the fact that you are a developing poker player is awesome as you have the key ingredient, you want to improve), recognise your worst game - i personally never play certain types of poker as i dont enjoy them..experimenting is good but sticking to what you know and love best is my suggestion.

Dont take it from me..but here are some useful articles..

One thing that I've noticed when I'm playing is that if a build a good stack in a MTT, I feel like I can call a lot more and I just slowly drain the stack. You have to keep yourself in check otherwise you become another villain on the table.

Wow...you are a step closer to being a healthy self-actualized individual! LOL

Yes in poker, especially NL it is often something you did or did not do that lost you the hand.

I stopped cursing at the player calling my raise and started analyzing why and at what point I lost the hand.

Self analysis helps - but you are NOT ALWAYS the cause of the loss.

Good luck !

Yeah playing tired and tilted is a big weakness too. Doesn't matter how bad or good the other players are, if you are not mentally there it's probably best to take a break.

It's easy to punt off a stack of chips while playing your "C" game.

I play too much for sure - time off and being selective is my downfall
