One player in EP limps, I have 10h10s on the button, I make it 10, big blind makes it 25, folds to me, I call.

Flop A 10 A. He leads for 30, I raise to 90, I dont think he is ever folding an ace here so I am shoveling as much money as I can in as quickly as possible.

Turn.. the last ace. Had a virtual hammerlock on the hand, and now I am quite certain Im drawing dead.

He checks the turn to me..I check back..last 10 in the deck on the river.

He basically puts me all in on the river. I tank for like 2 minutes.. knowing that I am 100% beat but quite certain that quad 10 beaten is the bad beat jackpot so I call.

He turns over AK to scoop the pot and stack me, his hand does NOT qualify for the bad beat [because the kicker in his hand doesnt play toward the bad beat jackpot, he needs to be holding a pocket pair.] So I lose the pot, lose the jackpot, and his hand beats mine for the "high hand" [it qualifies for that, just not for the jackpot.]

I will NEVER be playing at that casino again.

Yeah, it is a real shame when something like this goes down. It

does serve however to point out the difference between a bad

beat and being beaten badly to the newer members. None of

which, however, is going to help you get your lost chips back.

Will it??? I have seen similar hands go down wherein the winner

of the pot does not qualify for the bad beat because only one

card in his hand counts towards it. Don't blame you for not

wanting to go back to that casino after such a bad experience.

I hope you have better luck in future. That was a killer!!!

Im just frustrated because this place has really strange rules like "no talking when heads up during a head" - and i didnt want to risk any kind of disqualification to ask the question. Specifically asking a question like that also screams "i have quads" , disclosing the contents of your own hand, also not allowed. Felt super handcuffed into getting stacked in this spot when I knew I didnt have the best hand. It was a small amount at a 1/2 table but I just came out feeling scammed.

Doesn't seem fair as'long as both your hole cards are used i would think it would qualify for the bad beat jackpot.I wouldn't be at'all happy about that ruling, probably in the small print.

You should be pleased that you knew you were drawing dead with 3 Aces on the board. That is a sick read, as most players would never dream that their opponent could hold the 4th one. Be happy with your skill level and move on.

Seems like the K would've played as the 5th card in his hand.

Just this week watched a player at a casino lose a jackpot because he picked up his cards before the dealer had finished dealing . 10 minutes of yahooing followed by absolute dismay and bewilderment as the floor manager explained why the player was not entitled . .:puke:My worst beat was at PS . Nut stud king high spade routine after five cards , max raises and rivered . :icon_pale

That is one very shitty casino if that doesn't qualify for jackpot. Last time i heard that hand AK vs Quad 10's always qualifies for Jackpot. You may want to call the Poker room you played at and clarify things. I have seen people win Jackpot with AQ, AJ, even A10 as long as there Kicker played. That is some bullshit. That is Jackpot all the way.

I grind live games a lot in different casinos in So Cal.

Also, the moment that 3rd Ace hit the turn, The Dealers job! is to automatically call for the floor boss since there is a possible jackpot on board it's called "3 on board". Either your story is complete bullshit or you just got shagged out of a jackpot buddy.

Why blame the casino?
The responsibility was on you to understand what the local casino's rules were for the qualification for the jackpot?

I did see AAAA lose to Royal flush once. I didn't have either hand, but it was quite a sight.

I have always heard the rule as both cards in the player's hand have to play, so obviously the K kicker plays. The rule can't be that he had to have a pocket pair as straight flushes are involved in bad beats.

I think that the "both cards must be used" rule is to deter this type of play. If there was no jackpot running, obviously you would fold. The only reason you called was to try to exploit the jackpot, which is not bad, but it is the opposite of what the jackpot is there for. I know that certain casinos also stimulate in the fine print that the second card must not be a kicker. That is mainly to prevent situations like these.
