I have a major problem with my game that is really starting to annoy me.

My poker game when i concentrate and dont horse around is good and i win plenty whilst i am in tht frame of mind, but i have this tendency to muck around a lot because i get bored. This is to the extent tht i can be playing 4 tables and go all in preflop on every 1 because giving someone a badbeat gives me as much pleasure as winning money does.

This means that i will make a lot of money and have a good br and then go through a phase where i will donk off a large portion of it. Before i didnt care because i knew i could always make it back by switching to my good game again but recently i had what was for me a big win which came after a period where i couldnt win a $$$$ for the longest time yet.

I really dont want to have to go through the bother of building back to a level tht i hve been at so many times before because for the first time ever i can actually say and mean it tht i can beat certain games which before i never could. With all the donking i was improving my game without realising it and the eureka moment came when for the first time i folded aces without a second thought which was the major hole in my game. Now dont get me wrong there are many more holes to fill but this time i would like to work on them with a decent roll rather thn going through the bust redeposit cycle again

Does anyone have any advice that could help me to stop getting so bored and thus going on a costly donking spree

Thankyou for any answers:D

Oh ya ps yall here at cc had a lot to do with my improvments as well hehe

I'm not sure what to tell you to keep from getting bored, but if you're not going to play your A game then you probably shouldn't play just then. When you find yourself going on tilt or starting to donk off your chips, STOP PLAYING. Do something else instead not related to poker.

Just play when you are in the right mood. If you just feel like playing for fun and don't care then play for real low stakes, otherwise when you play your normal stakes, play you best or don't play.

You rascal!:D Learned a lot about agression I bet while donking.

What I would do is re-build your bankroll on what you know you can beat. Then when you get bored move up to a limit you feel uncomfortable in. I've heard the pro's say it many times "you can't afford to be too comfortable".

If your bored, your "too comfortable", move up a limit and see how you feel.

I've experianced it throughout life in whatever endeavor I've been participating in from music to work and now poker. Your only as good as who you play/work with, you want to get better, apply the pressure and move up a limit or two.

Da Man has a nice little point there. You could also try donking around the play money tables when you find yourself slipping. Some of those tables can get pretty heated.

1. Get a job that you can play poker while working.

2. I still don't understand why you give away your chips after a big win, change that. There's no need to give away your money just because you have just ahd a big win. Try to think of poker as a way to make profits like a pro, and you need the money as your only form of income, even if you have another steady stream of income. Think of the money as an absolute necessity to keep and make into a bigger profit.

3. When I'm playing online poker at home, I sometimes just watch TV (love Friends, even if they are reruns I've seen a million times), or movies.

4. Find some other form of entertainment that you can enjoy while playing poker.

5. Sometimes just take a break, I think that if you're bored from just playing poker and doing nothing else (which is the best way to play poker), then maybe you need to take more breaks in between.

I feel the same way occasionally, its like i just feel like gambling and having fun sometimes and want to play any 2 cards and such. The best way to do that is play a freeroll or two so you can have fun, play lots of hands and not worry about losing money, but if u do get really lucky then u can still win some money out of it. I recently blew 10 dollars at a ring game (about 1/5 of my bankroll at poker.com) on a flush draw just because i fealt like gambling, when i look back I think how stupid it was, but you learn from mistakes so dont be too hard on yourself.

playing higher stakes might help. seems like u dont care if you lose and ur not focusing on the tables as much as you should be. Atleast that seems to be my problem sometimes focus and i get careless. But when i play higher i play better. idk of its cause im risking more or i can win more.

When you get into one of your real bad donking moods, grab a wsop qualification FREEROLL on Full Tilt. Everything but the very last table (or less) is a real donkfest.

Otherwise I think DaMan nailed it. Play for more than you are comfortable losing.

Then maybe go for play money tables, and write a check to your favorite charity?

Why not have an account on a certain site that is designated as "play" money to you. Have a certain amount of nominal money that you can experiment and or just lose with. Make it a much smaller limit than you normally play.

But... if $ means nothing to you, why do you even care if you lose at your normal stakes?

1. if you want to be a better player that badly the initial problem wouldn't exist.
2. maybe the money should mean something to you?

How about a one cent/two cent NL account on a totally separate site where you can go donk around all you want.... just don't reload the account if you lose it.... Chris Ferguson recently set out on an experiment to win $10k in nine months starting at zero (free rolls). If you lose your $20 donk account force yourself to win it back via CF's method.

You have had a lot of decent wins in stars and I think you should work on building another bankroll there. Maybe just use one of your accounts for messing around - but play seriously on the others. And mess around in the very low stakes - not in the CC games or the higher stakes where you can build your bankroll with good play.

But keep in mind on those lower stakes tables that there are people there who don't have much money to put at risk. Be respectful of that to a certain extent.

I`ve said it before,, If you treat poker like a Job, not a hobby, it will make you a better player,,, you wouldnt want to screw up on your job, would you, so try treating poker as a Job and see what happens,,
