Sucking at Poker

Hi Blizzard, the fact that you're on this forum is half the battle. My main piece of advice for you is to be a little more detailed with your posts. You'll get way more help from other players if you ask some specific questions about your play. It's great that you're taking the time to study the game. Are you Cash or Tournament? or both? A good place to start is to figure that out first and then visit the right forums for that type of game. That way you can search for the right stuff that will help you.

I am no pro, but I took up poker recently again, while I'm currently broke, I am making final table on 1,000 + player games.

My strategy is - throw all else out the window, use some basic statistics to HELP factor a decision, but if I have AK ? and I see 2 4 5 6 and two players are betting up a storm? Yeah - I actually fold A K - my rule that gets me to the final table is - never lose it -as in - never go all in unless you in the highest probability have it.. Maybe a flush draw? If I have J or above? I'll push it -sure - sometimes you WILL lose... Doug Polk says this - you WILL lose in tournaments, accept it.

The best place to get to is not to care but to play with care if you ask me.

I don't seek to double up early on, I slowly build up - increasing my stack along with the new blinds in proportion.

Patience, and you WILL get a very nice hand every 30 min, 1 hour, and that's the time to really take some stride and bet - IF you ask me.

All I know is, I have been consistently placing in the top 5 of free rolls that are anywhere from 200 to 1200 people.

My favorite site? ignition. Once you make bronze, you get access to their weekly $2500 FR on Thursday at 9:05. It's about $450 first place, not bad.

I REALLY need to find work ASAP heh.

But then again, I'm a software engineer so I have poker up on monitor #4 - so it's not big deal to take 5 seconds and make a decision.

I ALSO like to show my hands when I have it - for whatever reason, so often I find players just cave when I do have it. And again, I don't seek bigass wins, just consistent wins... The goal in a tournament to me isn't having the most chips - it's making it to final table and ideally to #1.

I completely agree with the previous post.
Luck - in the long run is not as important as aging and cold mind.

The more you read the more you learn;but you have to put in practice what you read.To do this you gotta play a lot and play again and again.

Hi.
I try to play all possible freerolls every day. So for the past two months, I've earned a profit from freerolls of about $ 40. I believe that with the help of freerolls you can create a small bankroll for 3-7 months.
Good luck.

good thinking, i like this :) and all ur post in general, but all players are different with their ups and downs. very cool thing about you is that you play it on ur monitor #4 ( very awesome ) :) and youve got time and doing ur thing while the game unravels :p therefore patiency i guess doesnt play a role there :) imagine looking at that monitor all the time playing and praying and looking and thinking :p :) and the hands, you had, you didnt have, that dude had etc :) it does a number on you :)
hey im really glad for you and hope ill get to that level too :)
keep up the good work and good luck :)

You must play more than you learn and be a winning player so that you don't lose your bankroll, because you have learnt a lot doesn't mean you're automatically a winning player.

I do not know what limits you play, or where ... but I think you played well, maybe lucky, but you did know how to adapt :)

Starts with a bit of money at the lowest level.

To get good, you mostly have to built your bankroll yourself.
By that you cant loose much, but get good experience and climb the ladder.

Then you play higher stakes
