I have found a lot of success in Sit & Go's and MTT's. I start out super tight and super aggressive. I usually take two or three big pots before second break. Because of my image as a super TAG, I am able to also steal a few pots here and there. As the game goes on I pulse into the LAG category backing off before getting busted and gradually just go to full on attack according to the players left in the tournament. I have been cashing in 70% of the tournaments that I have been playing. I am very happy with my game and seem to have it dialed in really well.

The problem....

I have added cash games into my poker play and as of right now I am floundering. I am sitting just $30 to the positive in the last 3 months.

Most of the games are small 6-8 player games .50/1.00 or 1/3 games. The players tend to be LAP and LAG with a couple of TAP. There is very seldom any TAG players.

I have been trying to play TAG style only, but these loose players are calling everything and hanging in till the river and getting lucky. I fold a lot even to the limped pots when hold mediocre cards or crap unless I am getting 9:1 or better. Should I be seeing the cheap flops a lot more and folding if I do not hit with 2 pair or better? I am always afraid of playing mediocre cards and getting caught with difficult decisions when play with LAG's.

Can someone give me some guidance here please? I am just sort having a hard time cracking the code to becoming a consistent winner in a cash game. I do not have the progressive blinds to help put pressure on people. I need to figure out how to win at these cash games. There is just so many more and the money is so much better in a day in day out play. If I can figure out how to crack this, I can play in an extra 3-5 games a week and earn an average $200-$300 per game. As it is, I am up $150-$200 one day and down the same the next.

Any help from you would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you are playing full ring and 6-max NLHE, correct?

There are many good videos out there for tournament players transitioning to cash games (or just wanting to supplement tournament winnings).

The hands that you count on in tournaments like raising/re-raising AK, or hitting top pair and getting 20 BBs in, will not be a great strategy for cash games 100BB+ deep.

I personally do not have a lot of experience in these games as I play mostly tournaments and PLO/PLO8 cash games.

I do have a lot of experience with MTT's and it sounds like you may be playing a little too much for a min-cash while costing yourself the opportunity to improve your chances of finishing in the top 3. Making final tables and particularly the top three is where the real profit comes from in MTTs.

Yes, you will also be cashing, but for most tables you can pick up a lot of chips around the cash bubble and final table bubble if you are observant and pressure those looking to fold and hang on to their chips.

Hope this helps, good luck at the tables! :)

Hello, your playstyle is winning in some cash games or some specific tournament stages. The thing is that when the good player get that you are aggrressive type, he will be more sure to call your rises at almost anytime and with any hand or position.
One of the first things ive learned these months from poker forums and sites, is that "the player" has to change playstyles, to take different choices, change his strategy to make his opponents done before they do it to you.
Also ive red before about this strategy, its called TILT. At the article says that the TILT strategy is the most winning one.
Just you have to adjust yourself, not to be predictable. Some time, you will feel that you control the situation but the real true is that they only wait for your mistake to be made!
Nothing personal, thats my own opinion, and i didnt mean to offend you! :)
KEEP GOING!

give em more - mo tight, mo aggressive. 3x pf is just an invitation to see a flop - half pot bet is incentive to see the turn

No one can offend me here at all. I am here to learn how to crack the code, not worry about my ego.

I just got back from a game tonight and ended up $2 down. Piss poor night in my opinion.

Tournament formula for winning is straight forward. There is a tweak or two here or there that can be made but for the most part once you have the "pattern" down the only thing that can derail you is if you lose focus and spaz or something. Cash is not like that however. Each game is different each night. You must constantly be adjusting your game/style etc and must pay attention to all details at all times. The way players play for example and which players are straight forward and weak. Review of your tournament hands is not so important. You will remember the few key hands and how you played them. Cash review can be much more extensive all the way down to note taking on the players you faced. Every little detail and advantage matters in a cash game. Work on all of the possible angles and you will surely see your profit margin improve. Good luck

Also, you mentioned your last trip you came back up 2 dollars and say this was a piss poor night. This is not the correct way to judge success or failure. Only making the proper decisions matters. Whether you won or lost does not mean success or failure. You may have won a huge hand due to a mistaken call or a shove that resulted in you rivering a miracle(this was a mistake and will cost you in the long run). You may have made the right call of a shove and got screwed on the river..this is the correct call and will win you a lot in the long run. Forget wins and loses and focus on correct play and fixing leaks.

Cash games aren't about the big hands. Not normally anyway. So when you say 9:1 it is making me cringe. Not because calling 9:1 is bad if you still have a chance but because it implies the pot is really large and much of the pot is your money.

Watch players more closely. In tourneys tables keep changing and people keep leaving. cash game you can watch people and discover many things.//They raise only on high cards//always raises when it gets called to them no matter what(sets you up for easy re-raise)//are they aggressive players//raise high AK pre-flop //ect write those notes down because you might play with them in the future

if you playing a table with 20$ MAX buy-in; look for a table 5/6 with players that have 15$ or less. If you are joining tables with 3 people that have over 30$....well thats crazy. Put your pride aside. Your goal is to make money NOT to play a dumb card game with people your own skill level.WAIT!!! for the right table to open up. Don't just jump in some random table. It is not uncommon to search for tables for a good 10-20 min.<---------Best advice anyone can give...Period.

Don't become predictable. If you do even one good player can mess up your game.

Don't be afraid to leave table if you become unconformable with the way things are going.
