As the game goes on I pulse into the LAG category backing off before getting busted and gradually just go to full on attack according to the players left in the tournament. I have been cashing in 70% of the tournaments that I have been playing. I am very happy with my game and seem to have it dialed in really well.
I have added cash games into my poker play and as of right now I am floundering. I am sitting just $30 to the positive in the last 3 months.
Most of the games are small 6-8 player games .50/1.00 or 1/3 games. The players tend to be LAP and LAG with a couple of TAP. There is very seldom any TAG players.
I have been trying to play TAG style only, but these loose players are calling everything and hanging in till the river and getting lucky. I fold a lot even to the limped pots when hold mediocre cards or crap unless I am getting 9:1 or better. Should I be seeing the cheap flops a lot more and folding if I do not hit with 2 pair or better? I am always afraid of playing mediocre cards and getting caught with difficult decisions when play with LAG's.
Can someone give me some guidance here please? I am just sort having a hard time cracking the code to becoming a consistent winner in a cash game. I do not have the progressive blinds to help put pressure on people. I need to figure out how to win at these cash games. There is just so many more and the money is so much better in a day in day out play. If I can figure out how to crack this, I can play in an extra 3-5 games a week and earn an average $200-$300 per game. As it is, I am up $150-$200 one day and down the same the next.
Any help from you would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds like you are playing full ring and 6-max NLHE, correct?
There are many good videos out there for tournament players transitioning to cash games (or just wanting to supplement tournament winnings).
The hands that you count on in tournaments like raising/re-raising AK, or hitting top pair and getting 20 BBs in, will not be a great strategy for cash games 100BB+ deep.
I personally do not have a lot of experience in these games as I play mostly tournaments and PLO/PLO8 cash games.
I do have a lot of experience with MTT's and it sounds like you may be playing a little too much for a min-cash while costing yourself the opportunity to improve your chances of finishing in the top 3. Making final tables and particularly the top three is where the real profit comes from in MTTs.
Yes, you will also be cashing, but for most tables you can pick up a lot of chips around the cash bubble and final table bubble if you are observant and pressure those looking to fold and hang on to their chips.
Hope this helps, good luck at the tables!
