Hello members I want to know some strategies to counter a hyper aggressive player sitting to my left.
This player 3 bets very often  whenever i raise of some other weak player on the table raises. He seems to have the better off me each time. Plus on top of that he talks smack a lot and tries to bully you .
I really want to play better against this guy but most of the times my play gets affected and i make poor decisions against this player :(. advice plz.

Any time your decision-making is affected, the best strategy is to stop playing.

Otherwise, you can start by understanding that it's seldom if ever easy to play with an aggressive opponent to your left. So don't expect any simple answers that will make you a big winner in this situation. What you can do is realize that 3betting frequently means he has a relatively wide range. So you can 4bet wider than you would vs someone who seldom 3bets. And tighten up your opening range so that when you do open, a good chunk of your narrowed opening range will consist of hands in your widened 4bet range. Playing this way will increase your variance and probably still won't be hugely profitable, but as I said, there is no perfect solution.

Tighten up and play only your premium hands then trap him for his chips.

Close your chat window and ignore what he says.

If you're on a cash table, change tables.

If you're in an MTT, pray for a table change.

If you're in a SNG, make the best of it ;)

Best ;)

Avoid calling or betting with mediocre holdings such as kj ect and also lead into pots against him more often when you have good hands if this is cash game just leave and find much easier table :p

Like Arj said it's really not ideal having a hyper aggro player on your left so move seats if possible.

One option could be to open for a little less 2.5xbb instead of 3xbb

Think about 4betting a wider range, and flatting his 3bets with a wider value range when you have position.

Hi you make some good points but from past experience a lot of these hyper aggro players wont fold to 4 bets too often so I wouldn't like to widen my range too much as trying to get them of Ace rag for instance is nearly impossible they think there untouchable then go ahead and shove so what range were trying to loosen up to that could 4 this type of player as you don't want to 4 bet then fold to his insane shove when your not entirely confident in your holdings? :p

If someone at the table is irritating/distracting you don't play. If you decide to stick it out, fold and wait for a decent hand, then 4 bet, ready to go all in as he probaly will. That's probaly his goal, to intimidate everyone at the table to make them fold and steal the blinds but that's not how it works, you can easily catch him in one big hand if you have patience. Rmember live is a lot slower than online so you have to have patience. Good luck.

Yeah it's not going to work if they 5bet shove every time :) But I imagine most aggro 3bettors still have a pretty tight stacking range. If they really don't fold to 4bets then the best thing would be to flat their 3bets IP with a wider value range and let them hang themselves post flop

Wait for premium hand and then reraise him double his raise. No matter what position he is, just be patient and wait for those premiums. You want to corner him with those hands.

4bet shove all suited Aces and JJ+. You would be surprised how quickly they back off and start 3betting only QQ+, AK.

Every hand: Watch him as he gets his cards for a tell. Watch him on the flop, turn & river. Watch his betting patterns. Pay attention to his hole cards when possible so you can put him on a range of hands. Get into his skull. Then manipulate him into giving you his stack.

Mean while:
Tighten up (22+AQ+ unless on the button), open for a raise or limp and back raise big hands. Contrary to popular belief you can limp small pairs if stack sizes warrent calling his likely raise in order to set mine. Be prepared to stack off somewhat light pre-flop (maybe as weak as JJ or AQ) or on a flop that does not wreck your hand unless you are very deep.

If very deep, consider limiting yourself to very big hands(see above) and hands that can bust him post flop, especially when you have the button.

Accept you may get bullied until you stack him or have a hand you are willing to risk a lot of chips on. Remember that his bet does not always represent a strong hand. You can trap, but be careful. You will have a bumpy ride playing this guy. Expect bigger swings when he is playing.

Personally I like to play with players like this. It is fun. Employ plays like CR all in with strong draws (15+ outs), donking strong hands on the flop, and using the limp and back raise big with AA, AK and KK pre flop. They often fight right back and will get it in bad. I only trap if the guy is a paper tiger. (aggressive, but folds to any pressure)

Thanks yeah I agree flat calling the 3bet every so often (hand dependent) to see if you hit is also a good plan as you said ''let them hang themselves'' :)

Changing seats would be the best scenario. Try to get as close to his left as possible. Until you can do that, you may want to tighten up a bit and play good hands really aggressively. These types of players usually hang themselves even if they run the table over for awhile. They're easy to trap.

Not sure I understand what you mean. If the prolific 3better is in the seat directly to your left then you will have have position when you are BTN. When OOP 4betting or folding would generally be better than flatting. However, flatting would probably be fine with certain hands if his 3bet stat is really high and he tends to spew post.
