Hi,

I have 2 question about the Aggression Factor (AF) stat in a HUD;

1) When ppl are talking about the basic stats of a user, for example 20/10/1.6 , I know the 20 stands for VPIP, the 10 for PFR and the 1.6 is the AF, but is which AF is generally talked about? Preflop? Postflop? or a total of both?

2) How is this AF really calculated? does anyone know the formula behind it?

Thanks in advance for all serious replies :)

when people refer to it, they are usually always referring to total. personally, i think this is ridiculous, because i dont want a stat that tells me how someone plays PF, OTF, OTT and OTR when im looking for info on a specific street.

its calced something like bets + raises / checks and calls, provided that you have an opportunity to do one or the other (ie you cant raise when calling AI)
so, with an agg of 1, someone is betting or raising 50% of the time, and checking an calling 50% of the time

but yeah if you use the AF in your decisionmaking, open the main pop up and use its turn and river values for decisions on those streets- this is the main thing i use a hud for. super beneficial.

AF is post flop stat, generally I use it just to see how often someone bluffs (VPIP/PFR small and AF high just means super strong range, otherwise high AF = lots of bluffing).

The question was answered, but just to pile on, it's a post-flop stat across all 3 street. JCgrind's calculation explanation is slightly off (checks are not used in the divisor, only calls), but that's understandable as there are 3 primary aggression stats, all calculated slightly differently, and it can be confusing to remember which is which.

AF (Aggression Factor) is calculated by (bets + raises) / calls. It doesn't take into account folds or checks, and so isn't an entirely accurate picture of passivity.

AFq (Aggression Frequency) is preferred by some players because they take into account folding as an additional passive action. It's calculated by (bets + raises) / (bets + raises + calls + folds).

Agg% (Aggression %) is similar to AFq but also counts checks as passive actions, whereas with AFq checks are considered neutral actions (i.e. not counted at all).

The latter two, AFq and Agg%, actually give you a more accurate view of aggressive vs passive tendencies, but AF is so common that many people still use it.

But again, all of these as single stats are an overall indicator, not something to make street-by-street decisions against -- use the popups as already mentioned to get a better idea of how they play each street.

I assume the popup that has been mentioned here comes from Poker Tracker and/or Holdem Manager, right? Does anyone know if Holdem indicator has any street specific stats, AFq or Agg%?

The Indicator series are not "real" trackers. They're crude toys by comparison. You should really be looking at PT or HM if you're serious about a full featured tracker/HUD.
