HU table selection

Hey,
Some people suggested me playing HU games,
So I'm trying them out, but I'm wondering.
How do you table select for HU games? I've read that you should sit down at an empty table and just wait for a player to join,
But the pokerstars lobby has 20people waiting at a table all the time, so it'll take years this way.

Any suggestions?

As a beginner, if you sit first you'll get bumhunted (Google it). Hit second - at low stakes, and make notes on your opponents.

thanks, I'm currently overlooking the tables to see if there's any shortstacks, If not, I'll play players with a history and otherwise I'll just have to choose a random table and pay him if he's way better.
Btw, soo many russians, should I avoid them?
