How would you define a good player in terms of BB/100?

The title says it all really but to be honest I'm not 100% sure on the 100/BB exactly and what it means. I know what it means but my knowledge on what it really means is quite limited, could someone elaborate please?

Also if you wouldn't mind defining what is classed as bad,poor,good,great etc?

For example, someone with -100/BB or so are obviously a terrible player if it's over a respectable amount of hands.

Anyone with some information this would be great.

By the way I'm unsure on its true definition, as people say BB means "Big Blind Per 100 Hands" and some say "Big Bet Per 100 Hands", which one is it? And how the hell would you define a "Big" Bet? Dont they vary? I mean does it depend on the stake, so at micro's a big bet would be what? 50cents or ? See how confused I am about it all !! :)

BB = Big Bet

bb = big blind

1BB = 2bb (Big Bet is a limit poker term where on the turn the fixed bet doubles)

so 1BB/100 = 2bb/100

Ok thanks Stu..

So what's a "good" cash game player that can win consistently at a level going to have in terms of BB/100?

depends on stakes the higher you go the lower the bb/100

its all dependant on sample size too, if you have a BB/100 of 15 over say 5k hands then its not a true measure of how "good" you are, if you had a BB/100 of 5 over 100k hands then you could say you were doing good, but its better to just focus on playing your best and not looking at stats like this because at the end of the day you can only play your best and improve

To put some hard numbers to it, you're a limit hold'em hero with a 3BB/100 winrate. Most are in the 0-2 range.

For NLHE I've heard of as high as 10BB/100 over large sample sizes, but that's rare.

Yes. Most definitely 5k s a very small amount of hands. You will suffer huge downswing's or you're riding very good at the moment..and most of your favourite hands are winning but believe this wont last lol. It will slowly drop down. I too some high ones where I have played small amount hands ranging from 130bb/100 down to 15bb/100 and so on !

Certainly I would expect your winrate to drop over time.

5K is just such a small sample, Im not really sure its big enough to count as an upswing.

An Upswing / downswing deals with varience over a sustained period. I dont think %K is big enough to even count as a sustained period.

About 90% of online poker players lose. So if you're winning, you're a good player.

Gee, thanks. I feel better about my game already. Now if I could just get better, better:eek: . Just out of curiousity, do you feel that stat is valid for the really low micros as well? I mean, do you feel that 90% of 2nl and 5nl players are losing players? Or, do you think that number becomes more accurate as you move up into small stakes and beyond?

on nl2 is even worse on some poker rooms rase on micros go up to 10 procents so even if you win only 2-3bb/100 you are much better than common player on that limit
