Hey CC, I'm trying to be disciplined and have commitment. I know that the only way for me to win at a poker table it requires studying. I think being prepared is good.

One big problem I have is my schedule is 3 hours of study and 5 hours of play. I always have a big problem with the studying part though......I can't get the motivation to do it. I keep making excuses and saying later, later, later. Basically I put it off. I wish I had the ability to just go play Poker and win. But I know from experience that looking through HH, finding certain ways to play a hand and having a game plan has a big effect on my chances of winning.

Does anyone know what helps? Should I just set a time requirement

maybe like 7pm-10pm study. HHs, goal setting, decision making tactics?

For example, I know right now I still have 2 1/2 hours of studying to do......it's already 11pm and tomorrow I have to be at the casino at 10AM.

I really just don't like that part of poker....having to sit there and look over any adjustments that need to be made such a burden. Reminds me of having a job.

In my opinion studying shouldn't be forced. You should studying when you feel the interest and have the drive to do so. Weather that's in the morning, mid day, or night. For me it's at night, I find it is easier for me because my day is complete and my mind is clear. You may find you're more respective and look up and you're five or six hours in and actually absorbed a higher percentage of material.

Honestly where your at in your game, you just need to PLAY PLAY PLAY. I on other hand need to study more, but have always hated that aspect, and definitely need to improve there.

I don't time my study. I just have a general idea of how much time I spent reading books or watching videos, how much time I spent going over my hand histories, and how much time I spent doing hand analysis on the forum.
All of that combined is what I consider "study".

Some weeks, I'll have spent more time studying than actually playing. Other weeks I'll have done very little studying when compared to the amount I played.

Rigid time schedules are a good way to burn out fast, imo.

Usually your first reaction is probably the best one.

If you know villain is hoping that you call his/her value bet, than it's probably a good idea to fold. I know it sounds so simple, but it's so easy to level yourself into making bad calls. "Villain has to be bluffing me at this spot" (Then they turn over the nuts.

It calls comes with experience and knowing your opponents weaknesses so that you can exploit accordingly. If they only bet with the nuts obviously fold. It takes time and perseverance!

You're burning yourself out. You mentioned in another thread that you study and play every day. That's not healthy.

Take two days off every week and do something else, whether it's hanging out with friends, spending time with family, or dedicating time to another hobby. Also, slow down your study. Instead of learning multiple new concepts at a time try spending more time on one. Study it, discuss it, and try to apply it. When you are comfortable with it move on to another one.

I put on youtube videos and either watch or let them play in the background as I play poker. When I hear something that is new to me, pertains to a situation that I am in or I finally click with. I go back and study the subject out hard as I am now completely hooked into it. Having the constant background helps reinforce good play for me.
