How far should you go pre-flop with pocket pairs
Hey everyone, I started playing Poker again after a couple of months break when I lost all of my bankroll, and now I'm begining to look at it way more seriously. I'm playing at 1/2NL 6-max currently.
It happens a lot. I've won big pots when making a set and going against overpairs. The thing is, how far should I take it?
of a set are 7.5 to 1 and most players are willing to put all of their stacks in the middle or at least a fair part of it in the middle in later streets when holding an overpair. I will use my most recent story as an example:
6max table 1/2
I raise to 4 UTG with Pocket 10s
Action is folded to the agressive cutoff who raises to 12 with AA
Button and the Blinds fold
The flop comes 10s 7s 3d
I lead with my top set with 14
I get raised to 50 at which point I'm almost sure I'm going against an overpair, so I 3-bet shove
The villain makes that hero call and flips over Aces
I win the pot
Ok, I know it all depends on the player, but even if he/she will risk 50% of their stacks in the following scenario I would get roughly 7.8:1 pot odds
which is profitable in the long run, so what do you think guys?
