i'm talking about 10nl 6max :

I had several hands in which I lost my stack with AK and the villain had KK or AA .
I just cant seem to get away with it .

generally when I see that my opponent has a 3bet stats of 10 and above I shove thinking I'm beating his range.
but when his 3bet is say around 3-7 , what do you do in these situations when he 4bets you ?
I know it depends in what type of player stats, reads, etc .. but for the sake of discussion let's just say the villain has average reg stats. 23/17 with a 3bet of 6

I think we can agree that calling is a losing strategy overall , so do you normally fold in these spots?

thanks

Daniel Negreau once said : "AK, what's that? that's not a hand".

So, imo, unless you have a good read on a villain, I would fold it to a 4bet.

When facing a 4bet its generally safe to say that your opponent already has a made hand and if you call your racing (At best). This is not good cash game strategy as we can pick many other spots where we are getting our money in the pot with greater odds than %50. Fold and pick a better spot.

Don't fold. You're at least calling.

It depends of you opponent's style of play. If you know that he's a true donk who raise with anything, shoving with that hand would be an option. However, if you don't know he player, I would fold with no doubt. But if you are a gambler, well, then call or even shove and try a shot with that.

can you explain?
if I call and miss, what do I do?
if I call and an ace or a king comes, does he usually commits his stack with QQ or JJ ?
I just don't know how calling is a good play though I agree it sucks folding this hand

I rarely fold AK but if I try to remember the times i played AK calling 4 bet, i lost most of them, so i should agree with most of you that it is better to fold this hand, actually if it is AKs I'm going to see the flop 100% . Folding this hands against unknown opponents is not the easiest thing in the world but it can safe us a lot of trouble.

Well, first of all, you're not automatically calling. Like if you raise, one player 3bets you, and then another 4bets him, you may consider a fold if you believe stacks will be getting in between them. You also may shove against really loose/aggro players who raise widely and are willing to get it in preflop with lots of hands.

AK has 30%+ equity against any range wider than AA/KK. Mathematically, you're usually getting the right price to call. For example:
Player 1 opens to 3BB with AK,
Player 2 3bets to 9BB,
Player 1 4bets to 27BB,
Player 2 5bets to 57BB.
The pot is 84BB and Player 1 owes 30BB. Player 1 is getting about 2.8:1 on his money, which means he needs only 26% equity or better to make the call.

AK also has the added advantage of flopping a very powerful hand (TPTK) when it does hit.

If you make the call and miss, there's no one way to play it. It depends on position, stack sizes, player tendencies, etc. Even if you're playing fit-or-fold with it, the point is you still have mathematical incentive to call in a lot of cases. Now, if Player 2 5bets and/or shoves 100BB or more instead of 57BB, things change.

You'll always have to consider player ranges/tendencies in any situation.

i fold, because, i ask to myself: which hands you 4bet?, it´s obvious that only when holding aces, kings, queens and the worst of them will be Ak, so in the best scenario you are even and in the rest behind (and well behind), i don´t see anyone 4betting with something like AQ or KQ so for me is a fold

i fold AK quite often in cash games. AK is always chasing after a 3bet and especially after a 4bet in my experience
