Well, from my experience I play 8's and lower as cheap as possible. I've been playing poker since I was late 12 and now I'm 13, but don't think I don't have a clue what I'm talking about because I'm actually pretty good. I hope I become pro.

I nearly always call a low pair but only for max 10% of my chip stack. If people are calling higher then im out.

I think the chances of 3 of a kind are pretty low but worth a very small percentage of your chip stack to find out

Who know's, you might get lucky and flop the 4!

I love low pairs!!!! I play them whenever I get the chance, but as klbjj said earlier, it must be cheap as possible. For me not more then the one x the blinds preflop, unlesscalling a short stack all-in (then maybe). I've made a lot of oney hit a set with low pairs off the flop. You need to learn how to play them, you can really build up your stack, specially early on in a tourney when some fool hits high pair with a Q, K, or A and thinks they have it made

I would fold them most of the time, in fact I do fold them most of the time, no would about it.

They are only worth limping with if there are about 4 or more callers before you, or playing them cheap from the blind with a few callers.

If its been folded round to me in late posistion then I would come in for a raise with them or even against one passive limper I might well raise to get the blinds out and have a heads up pot.

This having been said I generally only really play limit cash games and you didn't specify which game you were asking about.

I usually only play pairs over 8's but have benn buned so many times by players with small pockets fishing for the 3'rd and catching it on the river, so I relly would have to say it's a judgement call, real question is "Do I feel Lucky"

The odds of drawing a set from a pocket pair:

On the flop - 7.5 to 1
On the turn or river - 4.2 to 1

Expressed another way, if you have pockets you will hit a set on the flop roughly one time out of eight, and beyond the flop roughly one time out of four.

(Numbers per Mike Caro's Hold 'Em tables in "Super System")
