Cake offers the option to frequently change your screen name. I was just wondering how often I should do it. I mean, if I change it with some regularity it should keep the multi-tablers with their software that keeps track of people's betting patterns and tendencies at bay, right?

Wow I didnt think any sites would let you change your screen name like that. That could be an invaluable tool to someone who wants to be an "unknown".

Shhhhhh!!!! I don't want the pros swooping in before I get a good handle on the site and get my share of the loot.

Hey aquadad, it's not that simple. Everyone's game adapts and evolves, but your nature's your nature. When I'm in the zone my game's an adaptive one, but guess what, sometimes I don't play when I'm in the zone. Oooh shocker!

Patterns are easy to change, but tendencies aren't. If your instinct's to pound on the punk, you're gonna pound on the punk. But it's poker, and sometimes you're the punk. Other times you're as tough as you think you are, but surrounded by so many fish they school you. Sharks turn into guppies when out of their depths and vice versa. I'm no shark, I'm just a vicious little guppy, got a few teeth and can hide in the plants from time to time, but I'm no shark.

Changing my screen name can help me blend in with my environment. Works for chameleons, should work for me. I was just wondering how often to change my name. When the Marines give up on camouflage then I'll give up on trying to be undetected. At the moment my name's easy to remember, but I'll switch it to something less unique as soon as I settle on the new moniker.

pokerstars only allows an avatar change once so I am shocked by this. I guess they want to protec thte integrity of the game from software that scopes out people based on past play.

Haha... this is the best. Describes me too. If only I wasn't bright yellow.

I guess that is the point ith your post.

I APPLAUD cake. And I think more rooms should allow this as it would make online poker more like poker. It's not a perfect idea. But it is a good move.

Some have mentioned "more than one account". This is not that. This is just a changing name.

Actually it's one account, you're just allowed to change the name frequently.

Hehe timing.

I like this idea.. keep the same account but change the SN.. I would like Pokerstars to do that.. When i signed up with them few years back i used my real name, then i stoped playing for over a year and i forgot i ever played on pokerstars. Then I opened up a new account and once i realized i did play here before and i read about the 1 account rule I emailed them about it. They forced me to go back using the 1st account i opened which was my real life NAME and i hate it. I dont want my real life name to be flashing everywhere. They would not let me change it. Sucks..

i have done it from time to time, but just for fun mostly. i have done things like switch the letters around in my screen name, or just pick one outta my head. right now im ~wtgdonkey, but i may change it. but yeah i dont see a lot of benefit to changing it to get an advantage on others, its mostly just for fun.

I don't think Cake supports the use of tracking software to begin with so "fooling" those using PT is not a big concern. I do not play at Cake but I have a question for those that do, does the software have any built-in note taking capabilities? If so, are the note still visable after someone changes their screen name??

Poker-edge is starting to add Cake to their database so...

Oh and I may have to change my name because of a crazy stalker. I'll wait and see if it was a one tourney thing or if she's just purely nuts.

It has built in notes. I haven't been playing long enough to know if they're still visible after someone changes their name.

they do have notes, and I would be interested as well if the notes stayed with the account or with the name..my guess would be with the account.

BTW billy I know you and others here are big PT3 supporters, I got my version from a Titan signup offer (dam dam dam shoulda gone for the 1K FR promo), but anyway, as you know, there are a ton of tracker programs out there, and some may support Cake. PT3 is OK but is not the 'best' necessarily. I like it OK tho.

I'm completely shocked that they would allow a screen name change. I know both FT and Pokerstars have long-winded policies against this.
