Poker is renowned for bluffing - but how often do you bluff in reality?

I'm not really talking about semi-bluffs, where you have some type of hand but are trying to give the impression it's stronger than it is through a big bet.

I'm more thinking of betting big when you have nothing.

How often do you make this kind of pure bluff play? And in what kind of situations?

I never bluff

I never bluff.
I don't bluff from the blinds when 227 appears on he flop.
I don't bluff from the cutoff or button when a face card appears.
I don't bluff for metagame reasons.
My bluffs are always cat induced missclicks....

Did I mention most poker plyers are good lyers....?
Well I'm not - :D.

As much as I can get away with :) Nah it honestly depends on the table. My old home game I did it probably 1 out of every 3 hands I played just because it was fun and usually got away with it, plus stakes were low. IRL once again depends on how tight the table is and if the value is worth it.

alot of it depends on the table and my image at that table. If I sense any kind of weakness in my opponents I throw out a bet. I bluff as much as I can get away with. The bluffs have to make sense though. They have to appear like you hit your hand otherwise its pointless. I catch people bluffing all the time because their bets just don't add up. I take advantage of this every chance I get. Usually a flat call of a persons bluff shuts them down immediately and they check to you and any bet usually takes the pot.

I don't do it alot, if at all..... There is one big problem with bluffing, that is you could be getting setup for a trap:smile::D I think this thread should also have that added in to it, I know that i am going to set a trap for bluffers:joyman: And i know how to find them out!!!!

Bluffing is something you'll need to do to make final tables of big MTT's. To bluff, you need a tight table, or a tight image. Normally the standard bluff is preflop raising into a c-bet, which is as much as I want to do

Bluffing is often way over-used by many noobs,... and usually when doing so they tend to throw out a HUGE overbet. Pretty sure it's due to watching a few high-lited hands on TV & then thinking it's the norm.
I've had good hands looked up many times and villain usually will say.. "Oh.. I thought you were bluffing" (after their bottom pr. suckouts on you when 2-outer hits). Simply because in all likelihood they are bluffing too often.

How often do I bluff & when? It's really hard to say. Bluffing, like so many other things in poker, is just something that flows naturally after awhile. It becomes intuitive to know the 'when' & 'how' & 'how much'. Most importantly is knowing your opponent is even capable of laying down a hand.
Lots of different types of bluffs as well.

if i got junk OTB and it gets checked to me twice i bluff at it 100% of the time. if open/raise to steal the blinds and one of the blinds calls then checks the flop i cbet/bluff most of the time. also late in the game in big pots i'll often bluff when scare cards come the complete draws. if i get to the river w/nothing i sometimes jst take a stab at the pot. but how often do i bluff w/air not often. most of the time i want some outs.

I rarely bluff, but I might occasionally semi-bluff on the button.

I don't bluff in cash games and only start bluffing about twice an hour after about 3 hours inside of a tourney.

I when I'm near to short stack, when few players are only in play. And I also do bluff when I'm the first one to act in the pre/post Flop. But not all the times because sometimes they will notice what your doing and might give you a note. And I also do not show my cards when I bluff.

There's no such thing as bluffing. You bet when you believe the combination of your fold equity and the equity of your cards when called is > 0. And all you can do is guesstimate both values anyway.

Bluff Smuff

Bluffing is so over rated it is funny.Don't do it till you're in the money in a tourney ,have a hell of a read on the victim and position in your favor. Then think twice if it's worth it or are you just doing it for an ego boost. In low level cash, which face it is what we play, never bluff IMO.Maybe show a flubber bluff early to chum the water then after that have it my friend.....coyboy33...

Early in a tournament I never bluff. By the same token I probably get bluffed alot. It's obvious. Doesn't bother me, they usually don't last very long. When the blinds and antes start is when I pick my spots. By then I will have observed enough players to figure how the table is playing.

Another often over-used tactic is when the flop pairs on the board and someone puts out a pot sized/over sized bet. Most of the time that screams 'BLUFF'

I hate to say it but, i bluff a lot. although i don't get caught very often (i think), might be because when i bluff i will fully commit to it and i find myself bluffing the flop, turn and river especially if my opponent doesn't raise which i know it would be very easy for them to trap me but i can't help myself i will bluff if they show weakness and i don't mean bluffing by betting a lot, i bluff to make it look like a value bet, but im ok with my game right know so i don't plan on changing it any time soon.

I mix it up. Like most things in poker, it's position, stack and situation. What I'll do in one situation I might never do at a different table.
Then again, maybe I'm bluffing.

Smith & Wesson poker ... My bets are protected by good hands 3 out of 7 times - you guess which 3 ... :D

I would say that i bluff about 20% from all hands I play but improving a lot lately. I use it very often when my "secret hidden sense" tells me that someone is trying to steal the pot.

I bluf more at higher stake tables and less at lower stakes tables. My problem with lower stakes tables is two fold - a) you are much more likely to be called by a very marginal hand like pocket 5s even with paired, broadway and/or 3/4 cards to a flush/straight draw b) you can get the money in and importantly get paid more easily when you make the nuts.

At higher stakes, I like the bluff to be a good, consistent story not something that doesn't make any sense with my table image.

At micro-stakes the big bluff isn't that useful, but people will call OOP and fold to a c-bet so often it's almost unfunny. I c-bet alot, simply because it works. In the long run I get a lot more folds than calls making it worthwhile, obviously it depends on the players though. Sometimes you can bluff the good players with the big one, which is more of a touney play I like to make. In cash games it's less worthwhile.

I like to bet at small pots especially in a tourney with a decent stack. Usually the players I play overbet with a re-raise, and it onl takes one time of me not fooling around to put them out, I do it to set up traps.

Very very rarely in the first hour or so, unless the table is super tight.

When one gets down to the final table, I don't think anyone van get the win without blufffin at a few pots.
