I don't have a lot of experience with cash games, I mostly play sng and have been playing a lot of mtt's as well. I stick to a 50 BI rule for these tournaments. I'm confident enough in my game and I know that 50 is surely enough that I won't be going broke.

I'm a novice at cash games though, and while I'm confident I'll pick it up quite quickly I'd want to allow myself a little extra cushion than usual. Any suggestions on BRM for cash games? I'm not sure what types of swings to expect compared to the tournaments I play.

At least 20, but use whatever makes you comfortable, but not so many that you do not care about the results at all. Since you are just starting cash games, I would recommend playing some short or cap games because they will be more familiar than full or deep stack games. (you will also need a smaller bank roll overall) After you get comfortable, then try the full buy in, uncapped games.

Just 20? That's lower than I'd be comfortable with.

I would say 40 bi,depends on how many tables you play. With more tables you play the most bi you need.

It depends what stakes. If you're playing 2NL then can be fine with any and again if 5NL then can be fine with lower number of BIs than normal.

The advice I always give is be aggressive with BRM while you have the financial capability to reload and be more cautious once you reach a limit where the money becomes more important to you.

Having say $200 to play $2nl is a huge waste of money, we need to get out of the lowest games ASAP because the rake hurts our winrates way more the lower and lower we play.

Thanks for all of the replies! I'll probably stay at 50 when I start just to see how things go.

Agreed, this is a good and important point I've said as well many times. Also, you're not just stuck to won limit. If you take a 10 BI hit at the next stake up, move down again. I've used fairly aggressive bankroll management, and in 10, shoot I guess it's almost 11 years now, I've never gone broke and only deposited once. You don't have to be static and dogmatic with your rules. But don't be foolish either.

Makes sense. The worst I've had is a 50 BI swing in the SNG's before and cash is supposed to be less variance so 50 should be plenty. As I get comfortable I'll probably become a little more flexible..

BRM depends mostly on the players winrate and volume, this should give you a good/solid estimate on how much buy ins would you need in order to get a very low RoR, other factors also matter like chances of reload in case of busto, prone to tilt, are u getting any rakeback benefits, bonus, etc., just play around with this variance calculator to give you a fairly accurate and statistical view of how many BIs/BBs you would need for certain levels/Stakes.

Wrong buddy more tables actually minimizes varience unless u cant handle the amount ur on and then it goes south faster not both ways

I would also say min 20 BI's but it depends on how many tables you play and it you are more LAG or TAG as LAG will have higher variance
