At a 5NL full ring cash game, I'm seated directly to the right of a fairly aggressive player (~22/15/3 over 20 hands) for about two orbits and watch him steal a blind and make a couple of large bets on flop, but nothing completely crazy. I play three hands against him in total.

Hand #1: The first hand he's seen me play, I raise in EP w/ a decent hand, it's folded to him in the BB, he 3bets big, and I fold.

Hand #2: Next orbit I'm in the BB w/ AKs, it's folded to him in the SB, he opens 5xbb, I 3bet, he shoves, I call, he flips over AA which holds up.

Hand #3: The very next hand, I auto reload in the SB w/ AJo. He's got +250bb, it's folded to him, and open shoves....

Is he trying to run over me? Do I call? There's a super nit (9/6/2) to my left in the BB who folds every steal. I don't have a lot of hands on the villain, hardly any steal stats, and no other reads. Do I call w/ AJo?

Sounds like you have position on a fish/tard.....I'm failing to see the problem.....

Am I missing something? He is to the right of the fish. That means the fish has position on him. As for what to do, frankly I'd move tables or seats. You can beat a player like that, but there are easier things to do then to play him out of position all game.

Further edit. OP you said he is on the small blind and you are in the big blind. If thats the case than he is on your right. Which is it? Your post says that you are to his right. ???

I think OP made a mistake there, I think he has position.

Do I call w/ AJo?

I dont think so, wait for something better. Sounds a great player to have position on, this is an ideal situation imo. Take their moniez :D

Okay, if he has position, then yes, easy money.

OP, 20 hands is nothing. The one time he showed down he did have Aces. He might just be on a heater and not have enough post flop skills to do any thing but shove pre flop. Heaters don't last, position is forever. Wait for a good spot, stack him, and hope he reloads.

If you're raising from EP and then folding to a 3bet then you are probably not playing tight enough from EP. Also...you had position on his 3bet (from what I understand)....so you definitely shouldn't be folding afer you raised from EP.

AJo is not a good enough hand to call a shove. Theres a possibility he picked up a hand and he is hoping you're on tilt (since you just got stacked)...so hes just shoving in hopes that you call. I'd say at best you're flipping against a pocket pair. You don't have any fold equity (since hes already all in and you can't re-raise him), so theres really no reason at all to call.

Aaah. I'm an idiot. I did indeed make a typo! I meant villain is to my right! I have position on him, which is why SB was trying to steal my BB. Ooops! Sorry.

Anyhow, yeah, my hesitance was the mere 20 hands, which I know isn't enough. And in hindsight, I wish I could have remembered that when I decided to call.

Pretty much right on ... except worse for me. He has JJ. I am crushed. And he knew I'd call. Tilt-o-rama.

When you play enough hands you see this happen quite a bit. Some intuitive players will expect you to be on tilt after getting stacked, so they'll try something tricky like this. Normally you wouldn't expect him to have two good hands in a row, so hes just hoping you will call with a hand that he has dominated.

Great play by him :)

TBH I'd probably agree with Stu and bgomez....I would just move tables. It isn't that hard to deal with a super aggro player, but its just not worth it. Normally fighting with a player like that just puts me on tilt.

I'd rather be OOP on a fire hydrant level spewtard than to be at a table full of nits.

How to beat maniacs:

1) Get a non-shitty hand.
2) Put all the money in.

Its not that hard.

You dont know he is a manic, you havent seen enough hands.

"(~22/15/3 over 20 hands) " so he has played 5 pots in 2 orbits?

One of those was known to be AA

He then shows JJ

This stats dont look any where near manic stats.

Oh. Even still, that's more just reggy stats, and that wouldn't cause me to move tables unless the players on my right were bad.

Its more important to have fish on your right than to remove good players from your left.

Its a common thing to find your self in a table with aggressor and players who just want to play fun poker. Smart poker players know when to set traps and get these donks off the tables.
