it really depends on many things for example the position villian makes the raise. Its not the same raising in utg or the button. its unlikely, not impossible though that someone raises from utg without a very good hand preflop like aa,kk,qq,jj,ak,aq,aj, so in order to 3 bet there your hand should be very good. at least qq,kk,aa and ak, and flat call medium pairs or hands like aq,aj,qk.
when villian raises from late positions especially the button or cutoff the range of hands he could be having are extremely high especially if no one enters into the pot, small pairs are good to raise and
j10 even 89 suit are hands to raise in that position, so try to 3 bet with good hands like medium pairs ace and a good kicker ( 10 or higher). and flat call with low pairs and speculative hands.
With many people getting involved in a pot, you need to isolate only with a very strong hand, at least queens or even kings if there are more than three players in the pot.
Its very tough whether to decide to 3 bet, call or fold because the circumstances vary in each table. Try to focused on the style of game they play loose or tight, and play adjusting your villians range in your game strategy.
