How does one do low-limit FL poker?

When I created my profile, I put my limits as PL and NL preferred Texas Hold'em games for a reason: I don't have anywhere NEAR the financial situation to play fixed limit games of even moderate stakes, and when I attempted a $2 table at a local venue...the results were almost invariably disastrous. I own a poker book, I forget which one, that alludes to low-limit FL as "pure luck poker", and from what I gathered from my limited experience, that designation is not far wrong. Clearly, one must play at such stakes VERY differently from virtually any other betting parameter, but I am clueless as to what to actually do should a low-limit FL opportunity arise for me again. I would appreciate any advice anyone would have on this.

With enthusiasm,

plays a limit that you feel comfortable you must be a level lower to accommodate the variance for not processing large losses, adapt to the and see progress in a short time

I'm sorry, perhaps I didn't get my question across clearly. I'm already playing, with fixed limit, THE lowest limits that even exist. I CAN'T go lower--and there are concerns with playing low limit Fixed Limit that do not apply at higher limits and that I do not know how to deal with. Mainly, it is extremely difficult to even get someone with a draw to fold post flop, and nigh impossible to bluff. What I'm asking is what is a good, overall strategic way to play in such a situation?

Low limit fixed Holdem is the toughest game I have ever played but it is not impossible or unbeatable. I would recommend getting the book by sklansky (I can't remember the name of it) and super system one and two. They both have limit Holdem sections and they are excellent. In no foldem games like the lower limits you need to maximize your winning hands and minimize your losing hands. Hands like ak, aq, aj, jj-88, and kq go way down in value. Also, big pairs got down in value. Small pairs and suited connectors go way up in value. You really want to build a pot with these hands. Raise and re raise preflop. You flop a draw, raise and re raise. With the more vulnerable hands like top pair good kicker, raise on the flop and check the turn. It's called the free card play. It's not really free but you save half a bet when it goes right. Those half bets will add up. Don't call off on the end. If someone was just calling the whole way and then leads out, well they have it. Don't call too loose in that spot. Limit Holdem is about saving bets and maximizing value. Read those books and work on your game. No game is unbeatable. You just have to know what to do.

The book you are thinking of is Small Stakes Hold Em. In my state no limit is not legal in the card rooms. If your roll can handle it play a little bigger game like 4/8 or 6/12. I find 6/12 to be a pretty good game and not a bingo game like 2/4. In limit games you have to ram n jam with big hands. Slow playing is a big no no.

Winning low limit holdem 3rd edition was the strategy I used for winning at the micros on pokerstars. It works well although I've since abandoned that strategy and devised my own using HEM2 reviewing etc... There's also a good Ed Miller sklansy book on micro games too for fixed limit holdem

floweryhead nailed it.

If you think low limit hold'em is luck, you're playing so wrong. Read Lee Jones book, then go out and destroy everyone.

...In limit games you have to ram n jam with big hands. Slow playing is a big no no.

Kind of an over-generalization, but I get where you're coming from. Yes you don't want a strong hand to check through, but sometimes that's not so bad because you might be able to use that to trap the field for an extra big bet on the next street. However, that is a caveat, and unless you understand the situation enough to determine the play will work often enough to be more +EV you're not going to be too far off simply firing away with what will likely show down as the best hand.

Honestly if you want to play good solid limit poker, you're going to have to put some time in to learn how to play that game. Lee Jones book got me up to $20/$40, and once I was playing there it was a game better suited for the playing style described in Small Stakes Hold'em.
