How to deal with chip stealer...

Hi,

Stealing chips of SB, BB are general... but how to deal with such stealer who is chip leader and we are short stake. Specially, in tourney where payout is huge, we are BB, we have higher cards in our hand and cheap leader tries to steal our chips. I don't think we should go all-in but still, how can we deal in such scenarios? any inputs?

depending on stack sizes:
-small stack: just shove over his steals with decent hands (like Kx, Ax, any pair)
-medium stack: call and c/r flop

Value bets and reraises

I think u ur pretty sure u have bigger cards u have to make a stand. Reraises and value bets will make them think twice. If they reraise u, i believe u have to push or at least make a big bet to let them know ur not joking. If u continue to fold these cards u never get ur chips in on the best hand.

U can type out Reraises and bigger but can't type you?

Let him do it. Let him get to the point where he will be doing it comftorabbly with bad hands. Let him know that you arnt going to trap him from time to time. THEN trap him with your large pocket pair and watch to see your stack get doubled

Depends on how big his stack is compared to yours. If he's always raising enough to put you all in, then just do it when you get a good hand, I'd say at least have a pair or maybe suited ace. Basically if his raises represent 1/3 of your stack (some would say 1/4) once you get a hand you are comfortable with, shove all in. If his raises are large but don't damage your stack too much, start calling some at least to see the flops. If noone stands up and takes a chance it will go on till you're blinded out. I'd rather go out swinging than letting him just push you out.

play agressive angainst him, he cant always have a good hand

Lately all my SnG's have been ending like this. Just wait till you have a decent hand Ax, any pairs, and call him and check raise on the flop or shove his raise preflop.

imo if he is stealing a lot, take the flip or even take the edge, he can't have a hand everytime so make the marginal call and go FTW....either that or kill him idk

you're pushing with value imo with Ax, KT+, 66+; it would also be good to include suited conn/one gappers in your pushes to keep him guessing. don't be afraid to take a stand

i woudl haveto say to buy your time cause if he is constantly trying to steal then just wait for him to hang himself or you could try pushing with decent hands AK AQ or decent pairs 88 or higher and hope for the best

I've found this a difficult position to be in myself. I can't tell you what to do, but my advice is to trust your gut. . .if you think you have the hand, call him or raise. . .if you feel you might be beat play it more cautiously, including folding if you are bet out of the hand.

I often find my self in this situation too. Although its often tempting to reraise his raise every blind, I like to let him steal the odd blind and only reraise every so often, thus maintaining a tight table image. Afterall if he raises 4XBB every time you're in BB, you only need to win 1in4 hands to break even in this situation. On top of that if you have a good starting hand try flat calling an let him fire more bullets. Overall personally I don't like to get in 1on1 confronatations with the person sat to my right. If you play patiently, and only reraise him every so often you will not only take his chips but also maintain the all important table image. Hope this helps. Joe.
