How to be a Strong Poker player

I watched the videos made in the learning 50NL thread and keep hearing this player is a weak player. I will keep doing this until they fight back "I think he's outplaying the player while he say this" . Im confuse on this weak and strong thing when it comes to poker. How do you determine weak and strong player?

Good question! I would like t know the same thing. Sometimes there does not seem to be much of a difference. Is a week player someone that just calls his chips off on draws and the strong player the one that pushes with the draw to make you make a decision for your chips. On the other hand, are they both just donkeys! To me the strong player is the one that has been paying attention and knows how the other players play. They should know what a player will typically call and fold on marginal hands and push with the draws to get then to lay it down. However, if the other person calls, then at least they have chances to draw out and still have a chance to win the pot.

Hmm, good question indeed. One could say the strong player knows the odds, watches the other players for tendencies and bets or raises more than just calling.

Its a very difficult question to answer as to explain it is to explain how to play poker well.

In a nutshell a strong player plays an acceptable V$IP/PFR/AF

he can be a LAG or a TAG, but he plays the opponent and the board rather than just the cards in his hand.

i.e. peeling flops for the sake of it is weak, but a strong player will do it against a weaker player if he feels there is a good chance he can resteal with ATC on the turn or river.

Strong players bluff sometimes but generally do so against players they know will likely fold.

Usually when 2 strong players get into a big pot, they will both have very strong hands.

I know that dosent really explain it.. but its that type of thing.

How do you become a strong player.. that stoo big of a question and needs to be broken down nto lots of much samller questions, like, when do I bluff, when should I 3-bet / 4 bet, what type of boards hit this type of players range etc etc.

a good poker player will play the opponents, know what they are likely to do, and so on. a weak poker player can be one of many things, but mostly they would either fold too much, or call too much. also they would usually play their cards only, and not really care about what the board has or what their opponents could have. there could be a million things that would make one player weak, but it really is all just in comparison with you gl!

My understanding of the difference between a weak player and strong player is simply in how often they bet, not how good they are. Granted, the better player will bet more often.

A weak player will not raise much, preferring to call or fold, while a strong player will bet or raise a majority of the time, putting his opponents to more decisions that they may get wrong.

I think "weak" = passive and "strong" = aggressive. That's all.

If it were simply how often they bet then a manic would be considered the strongest of all players; which is not the case.

"weak" means both passive and folds too much. it's a pleasure to play against those because they limp and fold when you iso-raise them, or they limp-call and then fold too much to your cbets. Or they call your cbets but fold too much to the second barrel, ...
