I hold 88 on the button.

-theres a raise to $10 in early position. 2 callers in middle position

I was playing aggressive. I make a raise to 35 to try not to be 4 handed and get someone heads up(bad play?) There were lots of loose players playing almost every hand so I wanted to knock a few of them out of the pot pre flop and try and see what happens on the flop heads up.
(would it have been better to call 10 and see the pot 4 handed? Especially set mining as I was? thinking about this as I'm typing makes this feel like a donk raise)

-big blind 4bets me to 79
- 2 others call

- I fold( should I have called here? huge pot and if I hit a set its a huge payoff 4 handed)

Did I make a wrong raise to 35? and ALSO is that a 100% fold when raised to 79 or a call given the pot odds?

I would have probably just called in your position, with 3 players calling raises before you. You can make your big raise when you hit your set and your still likely take down a big pot. Plus, you get the easy fold when you don't hit your set.

You say there are a lot of loose players. That alone seems like more of a reason to set mine for $10 and get paid off if you flop your set. Raising is not guaranteed to iso anyone, so you're mostly wasting money here.

To tackle your second question, do you call with pot odds...Your odds to hit a set are about 7.5:1, and with 3 loose players, your likelihood of being called on the flop in continuation of hitting your set is pretty high. Before your decision, you have

4 in for $35 ($140)
and 3 in for an additional $44 ($132)
for a total of $272

You have to call $44 which gives you pot odds of 6.2:1

With the additional implied odds of being paid off, despite not having the actual needed pot odds to make it mathematically sensible, it may be worth calling. This is more dependent on play style and how comfortable you are with big swings. With three loose callers, it makes it tough for you to win a hand if you haven't hit a set.

That is my two cents on it.

wow! that sounds like a very good game!

The smart play is to just call and set mine.

They put you in a tough spot, if you feel like gambling i don't think its all that bad of a play to just get it in preflop against these loose players.

First: as you said there were a lot of loose players. (so they would call anyway if they wanted to see the flop)
Second: You wanted to play heads up. The person raised with a hand I suppose. So for example should it come A J 9 what would you do? Try to bluff? Are you good enough for that you think?
Now my thoughts. I think that call of a pfr raise would be quite a good game there. Then play accordingly to the flop. Or I would repeat you wanted to bluff with this hand?
And calling of allin with pocket eights feels like you have too much money)

In your situation I would have just the $10 raise in order to see a cheap flop for the set. Especially since you notice the table has a lot of loose players. I wouldn't have reraised preflop unless you were ready to call a 4 bet or go all in and usually the person who 4 bet you won't have a huge pocket pair in that situation. He is most likely holding AQ, AK, A10, or something with over cards. You just gotta see what his hand range would be in that situation as well

NO you did ok

You played it perfectly, in fact, next time raise more!! If the table was loose your 8 would fall into their straight range and if it was heads upon most flops that miss big aces and jacks to k-Q a simple continuation bet should take it down.

if I can not see a cheap flop for the set, I'm ready to fold , is too risky in this situation

Should have just called to see a cheap flop. If you hit a set against a few loose opponents you are in great shape.

Depends of stack depth, but raising to 35 and then folding to a relatively small reraise to 79 is pretty bad, especially with 2 other players calling. As played, you probably should also call the 4bet hoping to hit an 8, but I would have just called the 10 instead of 3betting to begin with. 88 really isn't that strong of a hand unless you hit a set.

I would've just called and set mined - but to each their own.
