How far ahead do you pull out of a cash game?

One of my biggest problems when it comes to poker is BRM, I am trying to get into cash games a little bit more. So my question is how far ahead should you be when you get out of a cash game?

If the game is good, I stay in until I feel that it is not profitable. If I set a limit at which I am going to quit, I will never get the most money possible in that particular game.

On the other hand, if the game is bad, I quit as soon as possible and find a better game.

How far ahead or down is not really the issue IMO
It all depends on how profitable it is to stay.
If you have got it in bad several times against superior play but been lucky and sucked out for a nice profit then it might be wise to leave.
However if you have taken a few bad beats and are down 3 BI's but feel you have the edge over your opponents and still feel ready to play (alert and focused), then stay and turn your loss into a win.

The short term win/loss measure of that particular session is not really important. How profitable you think it will be to stay (on average) is what counts.

If the game is good, I stay in until I feel that it is not profitable.

^^^This^^^

If you feel that you are playing your A game and you're at a table that is providing you with good opportunities, there isn't any reason to quit unless you feel that you're getting tired, no longer playing your best game, need to go eat dinner, etc.

I'll also throw in that if you're up an amount that you're happy with, and if you start losing you'll get tilted, there's no law against stopping your game when you feel that you've put in a good session.

Bottom line: totally up to the way you feel. There's no set rule.

You didn't ask about when to quit if losing, but look up the concept of a "stop loss" which is the amount of buy-ins you're willing to lose in a given session. Set a limit according to solid bankroll management, and stop when you hit it (as opposed to trying to chase after the money you've lost).

I buy in for up to 5 percent of my BR on a cash game and leave when I have 10 percent of my bankroll on the table ie...if my bankroll is 200 dollars I will buy in for up to 10 dollars (100BB) and leave the table when I have 20 dollars as soon as the blinds come back around.

You should quit when you feel it's no longer that profitable for you to be in the game irrespective of whether you have won a lot or lost a lot in that game. Also, if you are feeling uncomfortable with playing deep stack, or if you have the character where you really hate it if you have won a lot of money and lost some back (the glass half empty mentality)

I genuinely thought, "This doesn't belong in cash games...".

I think it should be on how much more you can end up winning (certain players) and if you are playing at your best. Usually when you play for a certain amount of time, your game begins to go down. The other thing would be how much your BR is. Like someone said, if a big part of your BR is on the table then you should probably stop playing.

i dont really agree with just stay as long as you can if its a juicy game....all it takes is 1 bad beat and their it goes...if the people arent good they are bound to make odd calls and suck out once in a while. if im playing a few tables at the same stakes i usually leave if i triple my buy in. and i almost never buy in for max. i enjoy playing faster and its way easier playing a short stack. at most ill stay at the table untill i double up twice. so if i buy in for 40 and double to 80 then get to 160 im gone. heads up sit and goes ill rematch until i lose 3 times in a row. if im outplayed then only twice

Its all been said. (How far ahead do you pull out....lol)

Your stack should have nothing to do with your decision to stay or leave a table.

I normally look at my poker playing as one long game interrupted by life. I usually play four tables of full ring NLHE and will decide before I play, how long I will play. So when the clock hits 5 min before, I will pull my auto blinds and go around the rest of the orbit for each game. I don't feel this way that I am going to have to win or lose before I quit, since I will be playing again tomorrow.

Why would I get out of a good cash game? I wouldn't! Not until I was too sleepy to play or the game became too poor quality, or some mixture of the two. Otherwise, the image you have from winning big often helps compound your winrate... psychology on your side (or more correctly, working against your opposition).

I've always found it very difficult to pull out after building up big for a while.
