As you can see in the title limit holdem is my worst and least favorite game. I often let just pass by in mixed games. Lately I have working on my limit holdem because one I don't really feel I can be a complete player without it. Two there are very weak games around here and I want to make money at them. It doesn't help to have a game of fish when you are one of the fish yourself. I always seem to lose bigger then I win. What I need is to start over with this game. I need advice on where to look for guidance on this game.

I am sure a new preflop hands system would be helpful. A guy I know was watching me playing teaching me to use only top ten hands. If that is the way go, great. While I never did anything wrong I never seem to make money either. I have other people give me differing advice nothing seems to work.

I know I lose a lot of money on the turn. I don't let go as often as I should. It is tough for me to read people because it feels like no one defines their hand. I bet preflop they call, I bet on the flop and they call. Then it feels like "Now what?" While I am sure this is bad play on their part, it worse play on my mine to not be able to define what they have. I know a mechanical game does not mean an obvious game. It feels easier (to me) to be able to read someone in a No limit tournament because you can squeeze them and figure out where they stand. I am also certain that I am not playing my pot odds correctly at times. Sometimes I fold too much and die slowly instead of quickly.

So I am reading Jennifer Harman's section in Super System 2. I had watched the Howard Lederer video many years ago, and read a couple books written by a guy named Ken Warren.

So enough of me rambling on, to my question where do you recommend I start over with my limit holdem education? Any internet posts, books, etc. I would really like to hear from someone who likes limit and how they got started. I know there is no specific situation in this post, I have too many problems to list here.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Start with the articles from pokerstrategy. I think there are the best explanations for a beginner in Limit Holdem.

yeh poker is a game of skill so keep on learning and educating yourself, you'll get better than the competition if you work at it long enough, hard enough

I really don't play much limit hold, but one of the things mentioned above I also noticed. Suited cards tend to make it to the river more. If you have 4 people in the pot and you flop 2 flush cards to go with your 2 flush cards, you're priced in. So many AA KK type hands get cracked and get pissed. Its the nature of the game.

Limp along. It means you can limp if there are other limpers.

I only play Limit Hold'em when I play HORSE and I suck at limit hold'em. I usually just wait for the game to change. I only play the blinds. I have tried and tried to better my game, but to no avail. Maybe one day.

This +1000. Aside from the fact that it will teach you how to play limit holdem well it has a great section in the front where Miller gives a great explanation of how EV works, and essentially what the nature of successful gambling is. Its a fine book.

One thing though. You seem to be wanting to learn limit just to be more well rounded. At the level most of us are at (including you I suspect) you would be better off specializing in one game/format that you enjoy and play well. Getting really good at say 6 max NLHE will be more profitable than being "average" at 4 different games. Don't sacrifice depth of understanding for variety of game play IMO.

Good luck.

Winning at Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones. My bible. Just remember you can't bluff, everyone will call just one more bet. Tight, tight tight is the way to go

Neat chart, C9H but please tell me what RC RF LP and LA stand for. I have a chart I made up from the Lee Jones book, but it is not as nicely compact as yours.

If you have HEM check out the PLO starting hand chart in the Leak Buster App. It's part of the free trial, so you can always view it without purchase and I believe it's laid out really well.
