I have been playing poker seriously for about 3-4 months now online and in live games. My buddies get together a lot to play some home games and they are terrible. They will limp with pretty much everything. I feel like whenever I raise PF I good to a flop 3-4 handed and lose more then I should. Any tips on beating fish like these?

play very aggressive. Let them know that for them it is just loss stack! Top hands don't open at once! Do not show your strength! Try the bluff! This is the standard advice!

I have been playing in that kind of home games as well. Calling stations that want to see every flop and some way out flopped me most of the times. Which for them justified to play bad hands pre flop. In the long run you will end up winning because once their luck of connecting with boards runs out. I ended looking for higher games with more serious players.

Also in my experience most of those players will give up their hand if they don’t hit on the flop. So make a continuation bet to figure out where you are standing and to clear out the field.

Home games are about fun. I would not take it too seriously; you are playing with buddies. Take it as it is - fun.

What do you mean you play poker seriously? If you need advice on how to beat calling stations, then it can't be that serious.

+1. I can tell you from experience, when our home game got too serious it starts to affect friendships. If that doesn't matter to you, then go for it, but ... yea. My friendships are more important than winning a few bucks.

Playing real money poker with friends is not recommended because there are always conflicts for money and always ends up an annoying, playing real money online can be beneficial as it may not, everything is dependent on how you play and how much you play during one day.

Do you consider this game social or serious?
If you start busting players regularly, would the host not invite you back?
If you tart busting players regularly, would the 'fish' stop coming back?
If the 'fish' stop coming will the game stop running?
Do you think you can improve enough to play so that you win 'just enough' so that the 'fish' keep coming back and the host keeps inviting you back?

You have a lot to consider before you start trying to conquer this home game.

I fully agree. I would also add my 2 cents :). You could find some people on this games, which you see that are willing to learn and play home games with intention of discussing the hands (or poker in general) and trying to learn and exchange materials. You would profit in 2 ways: having more interesting home games and maybe learning something new along the way. Sadly this won't work for most of the players, because most home games players are there for the fun only, but it is not impossible ;)

This game must be super affordable. They always call PF because TDGAF. And TDGAF cause it's cheap. If there is a reasonable amount of money involved in play the game gets more serious and less like a bingo.

Play aggressively as there are few people, you need to grow in chips and play the good hands in such a way that you can get more chips, so you can get more benefit from the hands you play.

If they are fishes, they will follow every your raise. I suggest you that you wait good cards and use their fisher game against them. Good luck :)

its definitely hard to put really new players on hands. Its the worst when then have like a gutshot and they think its a good hand to stay in on. Ive been busted by players like that in home games more often that im proud to say.

Another way to benefit from home games

Of course, everyone is different. But I feel like sharing how I benefited greatly from my old home game. We used to play weekly, every Wednesday, for low stakes, mainly for the pizza / beer / camaraderie.

As I became more serious about the game, I felt I was becoming the best player at that table. I began to openly discuss strategy with my friends, and because we're all friends - and .10/.20 blinds are no big deal to anyone - they eventually began to reciprocate. We all started to discuss the play afterward, especially when we took our hourly smoke breaks. The talk graduated from things like position, slow play, basic outs counting to in depth discussion of pot odds, ranges, back door hand obfuscation, implied odds, the whole 9 yards. After a while, the strategy talk became rather dizzying to follow - but with practice, we all started thinking and playing a deeper, more intense game. All for .10/.20.

Now, largely due to this "training" of ourselves, we are ALL good enough to regularly beat the local $1/$3 casino games. Although in the short term, sharing strategy with my buddies may have cost me some low-stakes cash, in the long term I became a *much* better player by working with my other friends who love this game to push ourselves to get better and better.

I know everyone is different, and maybe your group isn't quite so close / willing to share these sorts of things. Or maybe they aren't serious about the game. But I would say if you are playing with people who really are friends, why not encourage everyone to study the game and get better while the stakes are cheap?

I always have trouble playing poker with my friends. They don't have any strategy which makes their betting random and unpredictable. They're harder to read than anyone in the online world
