So me & 5+ mates have been playing regular tournament home games but want to try cash home games instead. How would this set up work? I know it would be 1/2$ blinds, $200 max buy in, rebuys allowed etc. but how would we stop people from getting a big win and then leaving straight away - doesn’t seem fair for others seeing that it is a home game. Could we make it that you have to announce that you are leaving 30 mins before u do?

Thoughts and comments are appreciated!

To be honest I'm not a big fwn of cash games, but that player needs to announce 30 minutes before leaving sounds fair enough!

Its your house and your rules. 30 minutes seems fair. When i held home cash games pretty regular our house rule was you had to stay for the first hour - but if you had been there grinding with us for 4 hours and you finally hit your hand that sent your stack upwards to about $500 you could pull out and leave - everyone is fine with that until they're the ones behind and looking to get some money back.

At the end of the day, friends will be friends - but they need to understand as well in this game there are winners and there are losers - i know 2 guys i play with that will sit there for 30+ hours if they are behind rather than accept that it just wasnt their night. They are great people to be around but not so much if they are losing in a poker game - so i generally dont invite them much anymore for cash games.

Anyhow, just have fun with it - your 30 min announcement rule seems fine and plenty fair, i wouldnt have an issue with it. $200 buy in seems more than fine, puts everyone on an even playing field. Make sure you have change for the payouts :)

I've never really faced this problem in home games. I think the players who hit and run can simply not be invited back. The card room I used to play in had a "one orbit" rule. If you were going to leave, you simply announced that you would be leaving in one orbit, if you hit big before announcing, I think you had to stay for an hour.

30 min announcement is fair imo, it prevents arguments, even 15 mins is plenty of time.

Did you ever have your home game yet? And if so, how did it go?
