In HOH2 there is a section which I don't understand on how to get started.
For those who own the book, you will find out what I'm talking about starting on page 162.
It is called Structured Hand Analysis or SHAL for short, for those who actually went through the whole process I need help in starting this section using a spreadsheet.

How do I set up the spreadsheet and what program do you recommend that lets you input a couple of starting hands and gives you the probability that each hand triumphs in a showdown?

All help would be appreciated.

If I put this in the wrong forum, please forgive me as I thought that this was the proper place, considering learning the section I mentioned in HOH2 may be helpful for strategic purposes, if the mods do not think this is the proper forum, feel free to move this thread.

for a program that will do what you need, pokerstove is an easy and free option. you could use others, of course.

for the spreadsheet - you will probably want more than one actual sheet/table to use, and examples of the kinds of things you would need are given on pages 166, 167 and 168. one shows how likely you are to get called by a random hand, the second shows the expected result once you get called, and the third combines information from the first two and adds some calculations to see your total expectation once all the cases are included.

if you still have a problem after that, how about asking a more specific question(s)? i am willing to help if i can :)

Argh, I'm away from home, so my book's not with me. My computer either for that matter. Once I get home, I'll definitely throw you the info. SHAL is pretty cool stuff.

Use Excel. Once you have the formulas inputted properly you can change the values and they results will automatically update.
