i know you all have experienced it at one point or another.. the hit and run. i play on absolute and enjoy playing a variety of tables and limits but i cant help but notice a lot of time someone will sit down play two or three hands and just get up after taking down a couple pots.. is there any strategy to this or are they just looking to make a quick buck? just wanted some feedback on what you think of these players and what you can do to avoid them.

some people have a rule that when they double up that they leave a table. Could this be the case with the type you are describing??

Yes, there is some strategy to this style of play. In fact, I do it from time to time.

Basically, what it has to do with is setting limits for yourself. Lets say that you sit down at a $10 NL table. You say before the table that you will leave the table after you win $5 or lose $2. Basically, the purpose to this is to minimize your losses. But in order to make this method effective, you have to be just as willing to walk away once you hit your limits when you are up as you are when you are down. So whether it takes 15 seconds or 2 hours to hit your limits, you walk away. If you keep bouncing from table to table, you can actually profit quite nicely from this method.

The people I notice doing this usually called with the lesser hand, and got lucky, or bet high preflop with a poor hand and got lucky.(usually the win was preceeded by big preflop bets in sucession or not too far apart as well) I rarely see a strong player doing this. If you can beat the game at the table youre at there is no reason to leave. I'm not sure if they leave in embarassment or because they know they wont last long if they stick around.

I use this stratagy when I play 5 Card draw. I find there is more luck involved, so its best to get out whil your ahead.
