Is it legal to hide chips at poker live cash game?
Ex. you won 7k chips with 1k chip denomination and you hide one in your pocket, if someone playing at the table caught you and complain to floor, what would be the circumstances? Is it possible to get you banned in that poker room?

I know its scummy and frowned upon but i'm not sure if you can get in actual trouble. Every time I saw it happened it was done by a huge fish so nobody wanted to call the floor or make a big deal out of it. After they left though people started to complain lol.

I'd say if you're saving it marking it say as profit or loss limit then keep it on table but away from other chips or just keep a mental note but realize it's still in play if you go all in. I think it's probably frowned upon to do so. I doubt its bannable but likely if a complaint is started the dealer will remind the player to not do that and if there's an argument they call floor.

This is different from say you bringing table max to table but only putting X amt in play at start. i.e. Bringing $300 max to 1/2 but keeping $100 racked and only putting $200 in play. If it's on the table out of the rack it's in play at the room I go to. You also can't put chips back into the rack from your table stack without leaving . You also can't add more chips if there's cards in front of you even if you announce a top off.

But yeah don't pull chips from play. That's kind of shady.

Why even bother? It's kind of scummy and if I saw that I'd think it was some dick who thinks he's in Casino Royale. Don't think the benefit outweighs the scumminess

I would alert the dealer. Pose it as a question, is that person allowed to take chips out of play?

It is unethical, look up Going South, and will get you thrown out of the room I play in. As for 'legal' it will all depend on the specifics of the gaming laws that an establishment operates under.

Not sure about the US, most live poker roomsites I play in do not allow it unless your cashing out. As the money is still technically in play however; they tend to have the rule you must be gone for 2 hours after a cash out before coming back with less chips.

Some rooms will warn you if you continue you can get banned from them.

Highly bad etiquette if you win big just fold for few hands and cash out is my opinion.
Personally I can't stand it when players show no etiquette.

It's up to the management what to do about rat holing. I always let it pass. What does it say about this player? He doesn't think he can win, he doesn't trust himself not to blow off everything, he's saying he's a huge fish. Let him walk away with a little something: those chips will be back in play tomorrow.

So far as getting banned, maybe, if the rat holer was warned repeatedly that this wasn't permitted and he kept on doing it. I really hate that: when management does the mega-fish a huge favor by permabanning him.

It is absolutely illegal and can get you thrown out in every room and maybe even banned. Plus it is an unethical thing to do as well which is why it's against the rules. If a card room allows this I would never play there

It is completely against the rules. If money hits the table, it's in play. I remember a dude won a huge pot that had a couple of hundred dollar bills in it (the casinos I play at now have a rule you have to have chips on he table to play, no pulling out cash to add to the pot, as some would do if they didn't have enough chips to cover the bet and wanted to be in for the full amount) after taking that pot (he tripled up to 900 in a 3 way pot) he tried pocketing those hundred dollar bills. Negative ghost rider that shit plays!

i know from experiance that you can only use unracked chips for playing-2 months ago was playing live told dealer this is my last hand got dealt aces ,only prob was i racked half my chips prior to getting dealt a-a-the other guy in hand called pit boss over he told me i couldnt use my racked chips for play in this hand-in the end it didnt matter becuase i took hand down on turn,i still had 150 bucks in play with other half racked-as far as i know your not allowed to hide chips, other players have to be able to see all your chips you have-ive never seen anyone get jammed up like that,i dont think my local casino would ask you to leave for it-but they will tell you dont do it anymore-basicaly letting you go with a warning
