What is the best way to develop one's skills at reading hands? Mine are abysmal and i don't know why but i want to improve them otherwise i have to quit playing. I try to put people on a hand but 97% get it wrong. Am i just hopeless or is there a cure for this miserable condition:confused:.

What stakes do you play and presume this is live cash games? Let me know what kind of games and crowd and biggest mistakes you had. If it's live games like 1/2 in 2/5 you probably have multiple things going wrong for you. Mainly position unawareness and bad pre-flop hand selection. After few of those mistakes, it's pretty much massive hit to table image and they will check/raise/ and call everything just to suck you out because as you said you won't notice or have any idea what opponents are holding against you. Let me know more details maybe we can help you out.

BTW if you can't evaluate anybody's hand pre-flop by position and their hand history then it's another thing to work on. Usually, the situation of being clueless on later streets is due to that little factor too. Definitely lower stakes right away and figure your problem without pressure. Playing on low stakes like that with simple ABC poker knowledge and discipline is easily profitable even playing in dark most of time. So that's another thing? You sure you're basics are decent before even trying to reach deep into reading and predicting your player? Give us more info if you don't mind and we'll try.

Try to find some interesting and good contents on YouTube from peoples that analyze hands. Once you understand the basis of hand analysis your life will be easier.

stop trying to put people on "a hand" . do you only play one hand? if not , why should you consider that they only play 1 hand. following on from this , you put them on a range of hands , based on their player type , popsition and hands that you have seen them showdown. On each street narrow the range down as a result of their action .... i.e they fold some of their range , call another part and raise the remaining hands. repeat for each street and by the river you'll have a narrow range of cards they could have and then mentally estimate what % of the time your hand wins against their range of hands and compare that to the odds that they are setting you .

Sometimes good hands in bad positions become a big problem and a big villain as already said above is the lack of patience in waiting for good hands,
many players think that this one with an excellent hand is already going on all in every hour,
and always ends up falling in tournaments in the beginning.

I would play tight aggressive poker! It is the best poker style to play in both live and online play!

My best advice to you would be to forget about reading everyone’s hands.
To start with, you need to really understand what you are doing, there are so so many aspects to the game that you should first master before you put your energy into becoming a wana-be card reader.

Play your strong hands strongly
Play your positions
Control your tilts
Learn how to fold your strong hands when you are raised and you do not hit any part of the boards.

But most of all, you really need to study the game and learn bankroll management, (try low level sit & goes until you feel comfortable with your game and results.)

My friend, when you start losing more and more of your banckroll to know there is a problem. I've been through this too. My advice is to watch the days when you are in shape, and it helps you a little bit of luck.

Start thinking in ranges, then using the board and your hole cards build a reasonable and smaller range of hands, then use betting patterns, timing tells, hand distribution frequencies to try and shave off more

compare said range to your holding. Hope this is a start

Once you have studied ranges, bet sizing, position, tells and board texture. You will need to pratice your hand reading skills. Go on YouTube and find a video that displays hole cards in cash game or tournment and cover one player's hole cards with paper. Your cards are the one's not covered. At the end of the hand lift paper and evaluate how you did on your hand reading skills.
