Help improve my river play please
I feel very confident in my play through the turn, but my river play could use some help. I am winning about 60% of my hands that make it to showdown, more than that if there is a bet on the river and the hands still go to show down. For some perspective, I have beaten every level through 50nl, and have been winning at 100nl for a fairly small sample size of a few thousand hands. I play very aggressively, and as a result I get calls, leading to some tricky spots where I am blurring the line between value betting and bluffing.
Obviously when I get to the river I have a decent hand or a draw I have been betting that has missed, with that in mind this is my general approach to river play. If you see something wrong, please let me know. (sorry no stats, I have been playing on Bovada
OOP: If I have a weak hand that has made it this far I will generally check/fold. If I have been betting a draw and missed, or my hand has been counterfeited I will generally check/fold. If I have a medium strength hand like TPTK I will generally bet. If I have the nuts I always bet. Bet sizing will vary depending on what I think my opponent has and how likely he is to raise me.
IP: If I my opponent bets, I am only calling with TPTK or better, with stronger hands required for stronger bets, and I may fold TPTK if I think my opponent has made a better hand on the river or was trapping. I will only raise hands that are near the nuts, or for an extremely rare river bluff if appropriate. If my opponent has checked, and I was the last bettor I like to bet some missed draws, some medium strength hands like TPTK, and all my near nut hands. I will check some missed draws, all counterfeited hands, and hands with reasonable show down value like 2nd pair or in some cases Ace high. I do adjust vs opponents, board texture etc., but I typically default to betting all strong, semi strong and some weak hands, while checking most hands with modest showdown value.
