Pokerstars for the win ?

iirc stars used to do it wrong but they fixed it.

dealer is sb, acts first preflop and second postflop.

eagerly awaiting results of who was right.

It's like DM said: button has the small blind heads up. TDA Rule 35.

There can be some weirdness if it's a tournament that's just gone from three-handed to heads up, but that's probably beside the point and it doesn't change the fact that the button is still the small blind.

You're right. I've seen people go nuts over this in home games, too. The simplest way imo (and how we we always handle) is to forget about every thing else (who was what and who was eliminated, etc) and just move the big blind from its current spot forward to the next person that is still in the game that should be the next big blind (irrespective of what they were before). Then clearly the SB and button move to the other one and there is no issue.

I actually had a conversation about something similar with a friend awhile back. At my home games, we switch back and forth between two different colored decks with the BB shuffling the cards. Somewhere along the line, once we got to heads up, it became common for us to have the BB be the dealer - probably the mixup that OzExorcist and Jack Daniels alluded to. Of course when we play online and see heads up play on TV, the button/dealer is the small blind. Somehow, through the course of a few home games, we started to play things differently - it took us awhile to realize this too.

Yeah what everyone else said, SB is definitely button HU. First to act pre, last to act postflop.

There is always confusion to a number of points in the game. One of the biggest confusions is when the BB gets knocked out. I once had someone insist that I could not be on the button twice and that the button moved and in turn he was now on the button and the blinds skipped him.

Needless to say everyone agreed with me that there was no SB and he was in the BB. From that point on at every home game I insist that everyone be aware and agree to what happens if the BB gets knocked out.
