Heads up all the time?

So I was wondering? Why not play HU all the time.

In a 2+.15 on full tilt poker if I win I make $1.85. In order to make this in SnG 1 table and up I have to finish in the folowing positions.

9 Player - 2nd place (3rd is only 1.35)
18 Player - 3rd place (this makes 4.95 but the chances of doing it are 1 in 3 vs 1 in 2)

And so up up the scale the money gets bigger but to place still seems like you will take a bigger risk and spend more time (1-3 hours) vs 20-40 minutes for a HU match.

So why not just play HU all the time?

Does anyone have a detailed strategy for this type of question for all the different types of play.

If you feel you "all around" better than most players, by all means go for it.

One of the last chapters of Harrington on Holdem vol 2 deals exclusively with HU.

I've got the beginnings of a long-ish article on this very subject floating about in my brain, as these games have been making up the vast majority of my play lately. So I'll write something in greater detail in due course. But in the meantime, here's the short version:

ADVANTAGES:

- $/hr. This is, to my mind, the biggest advantage to these games by far. You can fit two or three heads up matches into the same time it'd take you to finish one 9-player game.

20-40 minutes for a HU match is a bit long, BTW (unless you're playing limit, IDK). In my experience, most are over in 10 minutes and rare is the game that goes longer than 15.

- They reward good reads. If you're good at reading your opponents, HU is a good place to get your skills rewarded as reads are vital to success.

DISADVANTAGES:

- They can be swingy. Losing five games on the trot isn't out of the ordinary.

- They're hard to multi-table. Your attention is being demanded on every single hand, so it's hard to devote time to many other tables. If you're comfortably four-tabling regular SnGs or ring games, you're probably making more money than you would be playing these.

- It's hard to stay at your peak. Because your attention is being demanded every hand, I find my brain gets fried pretty quickly. Six or seven games on the trot and I'm due for a break.

I was looking to see if peopel though playing HU all the time would be more profitable than playing in other types of games. I am getting the impressing most of you don't think this. I do fairly well HU but i am not sure I do well enough to make it the only game I play. It isnt as exciting as a MTT or ring game either.

Can't speak for anyone else, but it's certainly not what I was saying.

What you need to do is keep good records on your results playing different games. Whichever earns you the highest $/hr figure (taking into account multi-tabling, if that's something you do) is the game you should probably focus most on.

HU works for me, it may not work as well for others though.

I have about $10 freeroll winnings on tilt and the 2.15 HU look like my best chance to build it up.
