I think it was in a daniel negranu video where he talked about when you hold a decent pair and the flop is say something like 10109 you should just generally check this and play it passively and keep it small and call of some bluffs. I think he said it was because your opponents wont really pay you off unless they hit there trips and even if you do check the chances of them hitting the card they need is low and you will win end up winning most of the time. Does this still apply to a short stack 6 max game? I just got pocket AA and the flop was jj9 i checked and called a half pot bet on the turn and valued bet 1/4 pot on the river after he checked it to me. The villain showed that he turned a pair of 5 but he also flopped a flush draw. At 5c 10c 6 max shallow stack should i be checking with over pairs on flops like this? Im sure i could have got him to chase his flush draw for the wrong price and end up winning a much nicer pot. We were both 40bb

Buy in for 100bb.

With 40bb you want to be getting it in with AA, you don't have to worry about keeping the pot small, your stack is small anyway so just bet and get it in.

Pretty much what micro said here. Make sure you are buying in full.

Whit AA the must of the time you are infront:) jj9 flop is scary, hi can have qt,8t..
Give him free cards after the flop is not really the best play to do, i don't think that Negreanu check this flop whit AA.Continuation bet is the best play to make on
my opinion.

Keep in mind that there are still quite a few "ands, ifs, or buts" when Negreanu dispenses his advice. As with most all poker advice, it doesn't exist in a vacuum and will have several qualifiers. Daniel would most certainly amend his statement knowing it was .05/.10 at 40BB.

Now if you are in the habit of C-betting, then checking just alerts your opponent and he's going to be afraid you have AT. Once again, what you "should" do on a singular hand does not exist entirely in a vacuum. It will also have something to do with how your opponent reads you, based on your previous play.

What micro said 100bb is a must. With your stack size shove the flop.

Also you might want to look at info on ranges and how to apply them as it will help in your decision making. 'you cannot tarnish every player with the same brush'.
