Not at the stakes I play at I would never fold bottom set. Against more skilled opponents and reads you may can make the laydown. I am definitely not good enough to do it.

No. If someone seemed to have aces or kings, and an ace and a king came maybe I would consider, but even then id probably want to see it.

Not really - that's why I have a lot of buy-ins in my bankroll...

I'm not looking to make big folds at low stakes, these are great hands to get paid off by over-pairs and top pair hands. Bet for value, raise for value, balance in some bluffs against weak ranges/players, repeat, profit.

Good luck to you! :D

Folding bottom set on a dry board? I don't think that is going to be very profitable in a cash game in the long run. Not a lot to go on though. In tournaments guess it would depend on the situation in terms of whether you are looking to win a tourney or just try to min cash.

Never ever would I fold any flopped set on a dry board. That being said, I can be a bit of a call station from time to time and I'll find it hard to fold top pair. I don't know what I would fold a set to on the flop. Flushes and straights can get outdrawn with another pair on the board. It would have to be a sick ICM spot for me to fold any set on the flop.

Folding a set on a dry board is not only Nuts, but there should be some rule in the game that would prohibit you from playing it until you grew a pair …….lol……… [sarcasm]

But seriously, if your bottom set is crushed by a larger set …well that was meant to be, very little you can do about situations such as that.
Throwing away bottom set on a dry board is a mathematically incorrect decision.

Folding a set would have to mean the board is all the same suit and very connected. Also with crazy action in front by players you're familiar with who aren't likely to be bluffing. Short of that unfortunate scenario then no way. If you're entering a pot with middling to low pairs what else are you trying to do besides flop a set?

Hi, if you reread his question you will see he clearly stated a blank board, meaning a dry board.

So there is no possibility of any flushes any straights or any obvious connections.
To be able to provide meaningful replies on this board, we all need to read the questions throughly before attempting our opinions [IMHO]

The only reason you go in is because you are hoping to make a set so once you make it don't throw it away unless you are 90% sure that you are gonna lose.
I will only fold it if approaching money or final table and I face a big re-raise or shove from a TA player .

yeah, thanks..my point was that exactly...If you enter a pot with a small pair and flop a set why fold...what were you trying to hit if not the set?...thanks for your brilliant insight on the subject..

I've folded bottom set only when I've been close to the money bubble and it wouldn't be worth me being taken out if I lost. All depends on the situation though.

Is it cash or tournament ?
How many players in the hand ?
What is the action before you ?
What is your position ?
It depends on so many factors
You need to provide more information about the hand.

At a $240 buy in at Blue Lake casino, I was in the BB position and had a gut feeling with 4/6o. Three people limped to me, so I raised 4 BB like I had a premium hand. I get one caller across the table, and the flop is 28Q rainbow. I raise a little over half pot and the guy calls. Turn was a 3, I try to get him off the hand by raising a little over pot, but he calls. The river was a 5, Now he has over 60% of his chips in the pot, and I assume he thinks I'm bluffing, so I push all in, and in less than 20 seconds, he folds a set of 8s face up. in frustration I showed too, but the dealer grabbed them to quick, so everyone thought it was the best bluff ever.

When I was really new to poker, I folded top set face up because I thought the other person had flopped a straight. I never saw their hand, but I have a good feeling they didn't have straight LOL
