How many of you play on gut feelings, I sometimes throw pot odds, and my odds of catching out the window. Only when I feel I'm going to win the hand, what do you do?

Normally when you've got a 'gut feeling' about a situation it's subconsciously based on maths anyway ;)

I pretty much always play my gut, unfortunately the math sometimes gets in the way and I fold it. That's just me and everyone has different styles and approaches so go with what works

sometimes i get the feeling that I should limp into a hand, but I won't do it because it's a bad hand (Q 6os for example). I'll get this feeling that not going in was a mistake, and then the flop will come out 66 or Q6 and I'll feel dumb.

This happens like once every 100 hands or so.

And yet your gut feeling is still 100% wrong here. You know the exact probability distribution for the flop, and Q6o does not hit it very hard.

I have a game for you. I'll take a 6-sided die. Pick the number your gut feeling tells you will land face up and we can bet money at 1:1 odds on it. Let's see how well your gut feeling works. Hopefully you don't lose faith until I have a large chunk of change in my pocket :).

I rely on my "gut" alot - but...

My "gut" feeling is based on what I know about the players in the hand, what I know about how they play, what THEY know about how I play, what I've learned about adding elements of how the hand has played out so that the "story" of the hand makes sense to me, what kind of range I'm able to put the other players on, etc. etc.

So yeah, I listen to my "gut" but my "gut" generally gets its information from my brain.

Live poker gives me a "gut feeling" that usually is always right, and yes it has a lot to do with math, and all that good stuff

Agree with this. Note that gut feelings on what players have can be correct, because often they're based on subtle things that the conscious mind doesn't even pick up on. But having a gut feeling of what the river card will be is just silly. Basically you're claiming that the cards aren't random and thus the site's rigged. Gut feelings about whether villain is drawing to a flush, flopped a set, etc. can be correct, especially because they usually have a basis in math/psychology (ie what's the reasoning behind his actions?). But yeah, gut feelings on the river being a heart, or the river filling you up, etc. are just silly.

Doyle Brunson once said most gut feelings are an accumulation of information which your subconsious tells you to act on.

I think having good instincts is the second most important part of being a winning player.

Yes

This is something that comes with experience. The more you will play the better you will be at reading when a player is bluffing or not. Your gut is what will make you a great player and you have to be able to put your ego aside and listen to you gut and you will find most of the time you gut will be right. But again this comes with years of playing and seeing years of flops.

I play a gut based game, and it has worked out pretty well for me in the past. Way more fun too.

I sometimes call on a gut feeling. Also I find myself talking out loud about the outs that I need to improve my hand. Whenever I need a 2 or 7 for a straight it almost always seems to hit when I talk out loud about it.

I hope that when you're talking out loud about your outs you're in a heads-up, all-in situation. If not, you talking out loud about your outs is giving other players in the hand information which may affect whether or not they stay in the hand - very bad poker etiquette.
