So I got the weekend to myself. Wife an kid out of town an I have decided I'm gonna go to the casino and play poker. I have never played live before. The casino has a small tourney tomorrow night. I plan going early and playing some cash game before the tourney. Any advice for me for the transition from the keyboard to the felt?

Change of plans, I decided not to go. As I was driving there I felt tired, didnt think I would be able to play at the top of my game and part of me was thinking the main reason I was going was just for the experience. The main reason to go is to win money. I wasnt in the right state of mind so I turned around and came home.

Missed opportunity here...before I ever sat down to play live I checked out the poker rooms a couple of times just to see how the action flowed, how the games were spread and also talk to the people who were playing, as well as the floor (management). As a result, I was much less nervous when I finally did decide to sit down and play.

Then again, driving when you're really tired is a not a good thing. Next time you feel like it you might follow my suggestion. Lifts a lot of pressure going in. And you knows, you might decide to play that day too. :)

The first time I ever played live I stood next to the hand rail for an hour deciding,"I wanna play ,then I don't wanna play".But deep inside, I wanted to play. I made myself do it. Just like my 1st roller coaster ride.I was excited, nervous, anxious, all @ the same time.I asked the dealer about 1,000 questions it seemed like.lol I had played a lot of home games with friends and I have played a lot of online games but nothing ever compared to my first ever live play @ the casino. Every poker player goes through that stage I think. After the first time playing the rest of the times have been easier to set down but every time I set down, its still exciting.I can just hide it better now .Guarantee you'll love it, if you love the game of poker.

Ahhh man... I dont know about you or anyone else but poker revitalizes me lol, wakes me up big time. As soon as you walked through those casino doors and got yourself a coke you woulda been just fine :] You woulda had so much fun.

Like other people were saying it is definitely nerve racking though, but you just need to go and do it!

totally get that BaBco....totally agree ...but like Lark said ... next time you go ....go and check it out .....decide to play after you are there...my first time live ....I didn't practice looking at my hole cards and when I finally got the corners to lift it was the wrong side of the cards..i had to turn then and red face looked up to see whole table watching me do it...lol.. 46 player tourney made it to FT with most chips.....went out bubble 6th......I had played poker live before that but never holdem so if that is you try practicing picking up the corners of your cards....altho I feel that newbie move may have got me to the FT
